Go to NYC Oasis Website > Search for your site

CREATING BASE MAP

Zoom out to capture larger extent of site for investigation

CREATING BASE MAP

Hide all : Transit, Roads, Reference Features / Parks, Playgrounds & Open Space / Land Use

CREATING BASE MAP

Click on a building far away (we don’t want to see bubble around your site) – This is BASE PLAN.

SCREEN CAPTURE USING SNAGIT Set Capture Type to Window

SCREEN CAPTURE USING SNAGIT Click when the window makes desirable capture

Turn on road names if desired (This can be your alternate base plan.) > Snagit to save .jpg image

CREATING ADDITIONAL MAPS

Turn on subway, bus, and bike routes (This is your transportation map.) > Snagit to save .jpg image

Turn on Land Use (This is your land use map.) > Snagit to save .jpg image

Turn on Zoning > Major zoning & Commercial overlay (This is your zoning map.) > Snagit to save .jpg image

SETTING UP ILLUSTRATOR FILE File > New > Create multiple artboards (File name: Site Plans)

File > New > Create multiple artboards

SETTING UP ILLUSTRATOR FILE

INSERTING TITLEBLOCK File > Open > Open 34x22 Board.ai

INSERTING TITLEBLOCK Select Titleblock > Edit > Copy (or Ctrl + C)

INSERTING TITLEBLOCK Go back to Site Plans file > Edit > Paste on all artboards

CREATING LAYERS Layer > Change Layer 1 name to “Titleblock”

CREATING LAYERS Layer > Make additional layers: Base, Transportation, Landuse, Zoning, Annotation

PLACING IMAGES File > Place > Find saved .jpg file of baseplan (make sure you are in BASE LAYER)

PLACING IMAGES File > Place > Find saved .jpg file of baseplan (make sure you are in BASE LAYER)

PLACING IMAGES File > Place > Find saved .jpg file of transportation (make sure you are in TRANSPORTATION LAYER)

PLACING IMAGES File > Place > Find saved .jpg file of landuse (make sure you are in LANDUSE LAYER)

PLACING IMAGES File > Place > Find saved .jpg file of zoning (make sure you are in ZONING LAYER)

SCALING IMAGES Align all images on top of each other & Lock Titleblock layer

SCALING IMAGES Select all images > Use Scale Tool > Hold down SHIFT to scale them proportionally

PLACING IMAGES TO SEPARATE BOARD Select top image only (zoning) > Edit > Copy (or Ctrl + C)

Click mouse on the blank space of the artboard you want > Edit > Paste in Place (in ZONING layer)

Delete the top image (zoning) from first page > Select next image (landuse)

Click mouse on the blank space of the artboard you want > Edit > Paste in Place (in LANDUSE layer)

PLACING IMAGES TO SEPARATE BOARD Delete the top image (landuse) from first page > Select next image (transportation)

PLACING IMAGES TO SEPARATE BOARD Click mouse on the blank space of the artboard you want > Edit > Paste in Place (in TRANSPORTATION layer)

ENHANCING LANDUSE & ZONING MAP WITH BASEMAP OVERLAY Select base map > Transparency > Change to MULTIPLY

ENHANCING LANDUSE & ZONING MAP WITH BASEMAP OVERLAY Select Base map > Edit > Copy (or Control + C) > Zoom into Landuse & Zoning maps

ENHANCING LANDUSE & ZONING MAP WITH BASEMAP OVERLAY Click on empty space on Artboard > Edit > Paste in Place for each board

DRAWING SCALE BAR Lock all map layers > Using Pen or Line tool, trace scale bar at bottom left corner on ANNOTATION layer

DRAWING SCALE BAR Once finished, move them below to image

DRAWING SCALE BAR Or, you can further elaborate the scale bar

DRAWING SCALE BAR You can also add north arrow using circle & line > When finished, select all > Right mouse click > Group

DRAWING SCALE BAR Select scale bar & north arrow group > Edit > Copy (or Ctrl + C) > Edit > Place on all artboards

CROPPING IMAGES Go back to base map board > Draw rectangle around the crop boundary

CROPPING IMAGES Copy the rectangular boundary > Edit > Copy (or Ctrl + C) > Edit > Paste in place for Transportation

CROPPING IMAGES Edit > Paste in place for Landuse (on BASE layer)

CROPPING IMAGES Edit > Paste in place for Zoning (on BASE layer)

CROPPING IMAGES On base map board, select both crop box & base map

CROPPING IMAGES Right mouse click > Make clipping mask

CROPPING IMAGES Same for transportation map

CROPPING IMAGES Select everything on landuse board (base map, landuse map, crop box)

CROPPING IMAGES Right mouse click > Make clipping mask (note everything has moved to top layer BASE)

CROPPING IMAGES Select the image > bring it down to Landuse layer

CROPPING IMAGES Same for zoning map

CREATING LEGENDS On landuse board, File > Place > Landuse map image

CREATING LEGENDS Place the map > Draw rectangular crop box around legend

CREATING LEGENDS Select both image & crop box > Right mouse click > Make clipping mask

CREATING LEGENDS Scale > Move to a desired place

BINDING IMAGE LINKS (Images now xref links) Window > Links (Open links panel)

BINDING IMAGE LINKS (Images now embed pictures on boards) Select all images > Click on top right button on links window > Embed all images
