Buddhism has Four noblE truths (main teachings), these are 1:ExistEnce is suffering (Dukkha). 2: suffering arises from attachment to desires. 3: Freedom from suffering (nirvana) occurs when attachment to desires ceases.4: Freedom from suffering is possibly practicing the ‘Eightfold Path’, which lays down a process to acquire ethical, moral and mental discipline.
Buddhism is a very old ancient
religion. It is still one of the world's largest
religions with 300 000 000 followers.
Mahayana Buddhism not only tries to get themselves into a place of no suffering but everyone around them as well.
Buddha's real name is Siddhartha Gautama however he is known to most as Buddha.
There are two main types of buddhism they are
Theravada Buddhism and Mahayana Buddhism.
Theravada Buddhism mostly focuses on finding peace
ofmind and meditation where there is no suffering.
The top six buddhist countries in the world are China,
Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. All together there are 370 million followers
Buddha first discovered enlightenment when he was 35, from his experiences he made the four noble truths mentioned earlier.
The eight-spoked dharmacakra is the symbol of buddhism. The eight spokes represent the Noble eightfold path of Buddhism.
The eightfold path is made up of eight qualities made by buddha that we buddhists must live by. It was made to help people acquire ethical, moral and mental discipline.
Buddha's real name is Siddhartha Gautama however he is known to most as Buddha.
Buddhism originated in Northern India in about 563 BC. Prince Siddhartha Gautama. Siddhartha
Gautama's new religion spread
like wild fire throughout china and many other
countries.
Siddhartha Gautama enlightened and taught the people of India for over 50 years, he was known as Buddha.
Nirvana means 'to blow out' This
phrases refers to the end of greed,
hatred and delusion.
Buddha also came up with several other names for the nirvana these were the Excellent (Pantam), Security (Khemam), Purity (Suddhi), the Island (Dipam) Freedom (Mutti) and the Culmination (Paryanam).
We buddhists have a strong belief that
life is suffering and when we lose our
attachment to desires freedom from our
suffering will occur (nirvana).
At 6 he would either go and beg for food with his disciples or Help the needy.
Everyday from 4 am he would have a wash and sit down to meditate for an hour.
Then from 5 am to 6 am he observed the world to see if there was anyone in need.
we buddhists worship at home or at a temple
with others. There are more than 7000 buddhist
temples
most of us have a room at home set
aside to worship. It will have a statue of buddha, candles
and an incense burner: this is
called a shrine.
when buddhists worship we usually sit on the ground bare foot facing a statue of buddha and chant.
this is a famous buddhist temple. it is called the borobudur temple in Indonesia.
this is a good example of a shrine.
