A1: Java is a simple, object-oriented, distributed, interpreted, robust, secure, architecture
neutral, portable, high-performance, multi-threaded and dynamic language. This is the
definition of Java given by Sun Microsystems.
Q2: What is JVM?
A2: JVM stands for Java Virtual Machine. The output of a Java compiler is not executable
code, rather it is bytecode. Bytecode is a highly optimized set of instructions designed to
be executed by the Java run-time system, which is called JVM. In its standard form, the
JVM is an interpreter for bytecode.
Q3: Justify: Java is a simple language.
A3: Java was designed to be easy for the professional programmer to learn and use
effectively. Java inherits the C/C++ syntax and many of the object-oriented features of
C++. Some of the more confusing concepts from C++ are either left out or implemented
in a cleaner, more approachable manner in Java. So Java is a simple language.

A5: Java is designed for the distributed environment of the Internet, because it handles
TCP/IP protocols. In fact, accessing a resource using a URL is not much different from
accessing a file. The original version of Java (Oak) included features for intra-address
space messaging. This allowed objects on two different computers to execute procedures
remotely. Java’s RMI (Remote Method Invocation) brings an unparalleled level of
abstraction to client/server programming.
