TASK #1

• Find one source about this situation from a capitalist perspective & one from a communist perspective. Describe the sources and say what message they are giving.

This pamphlet shows how many Americans were concerned with the spread of communism. It displays Soviet communism as an octopus whose tentacles are willing to conquer the whole world.

In this cartoon it is clear in what dimension Stalin’s sphere was expanding over Europe.

TASK #2

• Look up what the Policy of Containment, the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan were. Explain these three terms in your own words and if you consider it suitable include quotations.

Containment policyWas an American policy used to stall the communism expansion. The aim was to prevent a domino effect, although it was the response to Soviets move and Soviet further expansion.

The Truman doctrineWas a policy established by Harry Truman in 1947 saying that the USA would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent their falling into the Soviet sphere. Truman said it was a policy to help minorities such as these countries against soviets.

The Marshall PlanWas an american program to aid rebuild european economies, the USA send monetary support so as to combat the spread of communism. This last for 4 years and its main aim was to made Europe prosperous again, by boosting its industry and removing trade barriers.

• Find two sources on the policy of containment, the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan. Describe the sources and say what message they are giving.

The policy of containment, this source shows the USSR as a powerful bear, and the USA down, little and weak. It shows the soviets expansion which the USA tried to stop but was quiet unsuccesful because the soviets even expand more!

This illustration shows the beginnings of American containment policy. The U.S. is seen sending troops, advisors and weapons to Turkey in hopes that the country will resist communism and remain democratic.

This image shows Stalin trying to catch the marshall plan represented on a ball, so as to avoid it entering into the net which is the European recovery.
