Play: The Most Important
Role In A Child’s Life We all know that playing is fun. It's also the most effective way for young children to learn.
Through play your child will develop essential life skills, learn how to interact with peers and with
adults, discover creativity, adapt and develop new skills, and also learn a whole range of
emotions.
Play is more than just fun for kids. It is how they learn, and how they
work out who they are, how the world works and where they fit into it.
Play is the perfect opportunity for you to bond with your child. The time you spend playing
together gives your child lots of different ways and times to learn. You can take each play time
as a chance to become closer to your baby as your child learns more about the world through
the games you play, she also learns more about you and how much you love her.

Here are the most important benefits of play:
Play makes kids smarter and builds confidence
Enhances the feeling of being loved, happy and safe
Develop social skills, language and communication
Learn about caring for others and the environment
Develop physical skills
Connect and refine pathways in her brain
Develop motor skills
Play helps develop impulse control
Play reduces stress
Play improves concentration, attention span and memory
Helps children understand the way things work
Play helps develop mathematical thinking
Your child will love playing with you, but sometimes he might prefer to play by himself and won’t
need so much hands-on play from you. He might just want you to give him ideas and let him
know how his play and games are going.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when playing:
The following activities require parental interaction and supervision.
Do these activities only when your child is alert and rested; if he is bored, tired or hungry,
postpone doing them, or resume them later on when you think he is more receptive.
Turn off any background noise which might interfere with his ability to focus.
Your child may find some activities boring, and lose interest. When this happens, give him
a new activity or challenge.
Work with your child every day for half an hour, and don't worry if you miss a day or two!
Think of playtime as more than toy time. Playing is really any enjoyable activity that
involves people, objects, or movement.
Give your child a chance to play alone and with others. Both types of play are beneficial.

Let your child choose activities and control the direction of his play. You can suggest new
things or present new options, but your child should be the boss. After all, play is about
fun, and if there's one thing your child is an expert at already, it's having a good time.
Feel free to change the activities to suit your child - or better yet, create some of your
own fun games!
Don't forget to have fun!

Amazing Games To Play
With Your Kids You don’t have to spend lots of money on toys and games for children. There are so many fun
activities that you and your child can do to have fun together, some of which can also help him
to develop by stimulating his brain. Different activities aim to improve different things like
auditory and visual skills, and can be modified to suit your child as he grows.
However, keep in mind that each child will catch on to the various activities at varying speeds. So
don't worry if your child finds some activities too hard or too easy. Modify or upgrade the games
as you see fit for your little one, and let your child be your guide for the lessons!

Where's Mom? Where's
Dad? Your 3 months old baby would love to play this game. At this stage in development, your baby
will only be able to respond to loud noises, and his/her brain will start fine-tuning his/her hearing
and also linking hearing with visual activities.
Eventually, she will learn that certain objects make certain sounds. Place your baby in her crib
lying on her back. Stand at the side of the crib and keep calling her name.
After a while, your baby will soon "localize" and turn her head and body towards the sound. Move
to the other side and call her name again until she turns her attention towards you. Repeat this
four or five time. This game targeted her auditory discrimination skills.

Peek-a-Boo This game sharpens your 6 months old baby’s hearing and improves her understanding of spoken
language and strengthens her memory.
Start by laying your baby on her crib, and then get her attention by standing and smiling at her.
When she is looking at you cover your face with a pillow or cloth. After a few seconds uncover
your face and say "peek-a-boo" in a loud and clear voice .You can also ask " where is mom?" or "
where is dad?" and then reveal yourself and say" here's mom!" or " here's dad!" Your baby will
get interested if you move the pillow or cloth in different directions of the crib. Repeat this a few
more times.
As your child grows you can play peek-a-boo in a different way! Play peek-a-boo again but this
time doesn’t pull away the pillow or cloth let your child pull it away herself. After she pulls it away
don’t forget to say “here’s mom!” or “here’s dad!”

Tummy Time Tummy time and floor play are important when your baby is around 3 months old for your baby’s
development. Tummy time helps your baby develop movement control by strengthening head,
neck and body muscles.
Place your baby on her stomach on the floor, with 3 or 4 soft objects and toys around her.
Encourage her to reach and play with the toys without helping her to hold objects. Let her explore
for around 10 to 15 minutes and then turn her over so she is lying on her back. This will change
her perspective of the objects and make things more interesting for her!
Note:
Never leave your child unattended during this activity and if she falls asleep on her stomach,
immediately turn her over to her back.

Tickle Songs As your baby grows, you can play songs or rhymes with his hands and feet. Place him on your lap
and sing a song like “this little piggy” or “round and round the garden”. Once you finish the song,
don’t forget to tickle. Repeat the song a couple of times.
Basic, repetitive rhymes are awesome for enhancing your child's memory ability. Your baby will
love and feel happy to spend time with you.

Bubble And Baby Babies love to follow bubbles as they float around. Blow some bubbles; See how he follows the
bubbles with his eyes as they float down.
Most babies are entranced by bubbles. Blow bubbles when he is outside in the park. If he catches
one, he'll see and feel it pop as he touches it, which will help him learn about cause and effect.
Remember to clean his hands afterwards so he doesn't get soap water in his eyes.

own. Just, grab her under her arm and help her kick the ball! Swinging her legs helps your baby
strengthen her tummy and leg muscles, and prepares her for playing football for real!

Inside Out Did you see your baby start emptying everything including drawers, baskets and wallets?
Transform this into a game you can both play.
You may consider filling a large container or bowl with safe, interesting objects, such as blocks,
small plush toys, rattles and measuring cups. Help your baby pick up the container and turn it
upside down, then fill the container up again together.
Taking care of diverse articles will help her find out about size, shape and weight. It's likewise an
extraordinary approach to present ideas, for example, of all shapes and sizes, empty and full.

Memory Booster Your baby needs some mind games! This one is pretty simple and she would enjoy! This basic
card game will help enhance and enhance your baby’s memory. It will improve his ability for
recognizing colors.
On every card, draw a circle, but in three different colors (red, blue and yellow). Show him the
red circle and say "Red." Next, show him the yellow circle and say "Yellow." Put both cards face
down and ask him "Where is the red circle?" and after that uncover the red card saying, "Here's
the red circle!" Reveal the yellow card and say "Here is the yellow circle!” Proceed until your child
begins to indicate towards which card to turn over.

Stop the game before he gets bored! When you child is familiar with the red and yellow circle,
you can substitute the blue card in the game. Keep stirring up the three cards until your youngster
has realized this diversion.
You can change this game easily! If your child has mastered the three colors, you can repeat this
game by presenting another shape. Select two cards of the same color, but of different shapes
to play the same game. As he improves, you can add more shapes or move on to different letters
and numbers.
Note:
Be patient! Let your child know that it's okay to make a mistake and don't forget to praise him
when he gets it right!

obviously! Just place a coin under one of three cups and shuffle the cups around. Then ask your
children to guess which cups holds the coin.
Be Sneaky parents! Place the cups near the edge of a table and secretly drop the coin. Watch
your tots’ eyes light up in amazement when they learn the coin is gone!

and baby blocks. At that point work with your infant to build a tower. Once it's up and ready,
takes it in turns to knock it down. Your child will love watching it tumble. She's learning about
sizes and shapes as well as cause and effect with this simple game.
Collect together a collection of old grain boxes, lightweight books, plastic bowls, yoghurt
containers and also child blocks. Work with your little one to build a tower of London! Then take

As your child grows, the way he plays will change – he’ll get more
creative and experiment more with toys, games and ideas. This might
mean he needs more space and time to play.

Hide and Seek You know that! Without Hide and Seek no list of indoor games is complete! In this hide. When
“It” is finished counting, he or she begins looking for the hiders. The last hider to be found is the
next “It.”
Families with older children might want to take things up a notch and play Hide and Seek in the
dark. Just to be safe, make sure there are no loose items on the floor. If you want, allow “It” to
carry a flashlight or turn the lights on once “It” finishes counting.

Freeze Dance This is going to be a super Fun! Choose some of your kids’ favorite tunes and turn up the volume.
Ask them to dance until the music stops. When it does, they have to freeze in whatever position
they find themselves in – even if they have one leg up.
To make the game more challenging, ask the kids to freeze in specific poses: animals, shapes,
letters, or even yoga postures.
And the winner drive home their very own Gold medal made of some
beautiful ribbon and papers!

Hot Potato You need few of your family members involved. The more the merrier! Get all of them in a circle.
Turn on some music. Pass a beanbag around the circle! To make it super exciting, pretend the
beanbag to be a very, very, very hot potato.
When the music stops, the person holding the beanbag is out. The music starts again and the
remaining persons continue passing the hot potato until the music stops. The last person in the
circle is the winner! You can use a soft ball, cushion instead of beanbag or water balloon.
The water balloon version of ‘Hot Potato’ is a great twist. Whoever is left holding the water
balloon or whoever pops it is the one out.

My Own Basketball You can’t be too little for this version of basketball. All you need is a bucket and a small, light ball.
Each player takes a turn at throwing the ball into the bucket. If you score a bucket, take a step
back and throws again until missing. The player who shoots the ball in the bucket from the
farthest distance wins. So, simple but so funny!

Treasure Hunt Bring out a Spy in your kid! Kids love finding hidden objects — especially when there’s a prize to
win at the end of this hunt! Write your clues on some slips of paper — Bring creative ideas in
you!
Place the first clue somewhere easy to find, like inside your child’s snack or cereal bowl. Then
leave as many clues as you like around the house, making a trail to the final clue. Instead of a
prize, the treasure hunt can lead to various coins around the house.
This way the kids get to collect all the coins and put them in their
piggy banks!

Catch Me If You Can You would unleash your full energy and would bring thrill in this game! Trust me! Kids would love
to be chased and you would long cherish their giggly laughter!
For the full fun frill activity, you would need open space in your back yard or the park!
Play Idea: If weather permits, this is a great game for the garden or playground. Otherwise, you
can play it in the house. Just make sure you move toys and other potential obstacles off to the
side.
Until the kid understand and get used to the game, start with smaller area. Using a lighthearted
voice, tell your toddler, "Mummy's going to catch you!" and then slowly reach out and lightly
grasp his wrist. If he's in a hugging mood, you can pull him in for a bear hug.
Then move a short distance away and say, "Mummy's going to catch you again!" and walk (or
crawl!) toward him, using exaggerated, slow-motion movements. Then "catch" him again.

What is it Mamma! It's a solid ... no, it's a liquid ... no, I told you! It is a solid ... no ... wait, what is it? It's gloop! It’s an
enthralling, curious substance that has properties of both a liquid and a solid. This activity is a
little messy, but it's definitely worth it. Gloop will captivate your toddler, and perhaps you, too!
This is a pure fun. Any kid and parent would enjoy!
You need: an outsized bowl, two spoons, corn flour, water, food coloring (optional- but it would
be fun), an apron or clothes you don't mind getting muddled and newspaper to protect the floor
if you're playing inside.

How Would You Play?
This game is probably best played outdoors, but if you're inside, put down plenty of newspaper
to protect the floor. Either way, make sure your toddler is wearing clothes you don't mind getting
untidy.
Pour a cup or two of corn flour into a large bowl, and gradually pour water until you have a gloopy
mixture. Let your toddler hold one of the spoons and help you "stir" as you go. Add a few drops
of food coloring, if you're using it, and stir again.
Now roll up your toddler's sleeves and let him plunge his hands into the bowl. Pick up some of
the gloop yourself and squeeze it. Note that as you apply pressure, it feels like a solid. Relax your
hand and the gloop will run back into the bowl as a liquid.
Talk to your toddler about what he can feel as the two of you squash and mash the gloop. For
example, you can say, "When we squeeze it, it gets hard and firm. But when we stop squeezing,
it gets soft again. Isn't that funny?" You would see, not only you but your kid too would play it
again and again.
Warning: if your kid has asthma or you're concerned about him breathing in the corn flour p,
make sure you blend it with water while he's at a safe distance. Once its gloopy, it's perfectly
safe.

Ring A-Ring O'roses You probably remember enjoying this game as a child. Well, your life has come full circle, because
now that your child is finding herself able to move in ever more exciting ways (galloping sideways,
for example), it's time to play it again.
Both younger and older kids who can team up together really enjoy this.
Your kid would learn about team work, love of music and interactive fun play!
You need the company of yourself and your little one (older siblings are great too, if they're
available and willing!)

How to Play
Clear a space so that you and your child (and any other players) have enough room to hold hands,
walk in a circle and sit down without hitting anything. As you're walking, or charging, in a circle,
sing:
Ring-a-round the roses,
A pocket full of posies,
Ashes! Ashes!
We all fall down!
On "fall down", sit quickly on the floor. This part is usually a hit!

Shadow Tag A simple, fun game to play outside with your toddler on a sunny day. It will help him learn about
the world and it can be as active as you like.
Any toddler and kid would thrill with moving shadow.
This game would help your kid with three-dimensional awareness and learn nature. You need a
bright, sunny day and somewhere outside - a garden, playground or park.
The idea of the game is to try to "tag" the other player by stepping on their shadow. First, help
your toddler find his shadow. Change directions and move around so he can see what effect it
has on his shadow. Then try chasing the shadow or pretend your shadow is chasing you. Your
toddler will probably find it very funny if you tell your shadow to stop following you and get cross
when it doesn't. To play tag, you are "it" and have to try to step on your toddler's shadow. Then
it's his turn to step on yours.

Ball Games Sharing is good habit! Isn’t it? Generally it is hard for toddlers to learn to share. Throwing and
catching a ball will not only develop your little one’s hand eye co-ordination but it will lay down
the groundwork for sharing and teaming together for having fun!
You just need a lightweight ball! Playing a simple game of catch between two or three people will
help your kid learn that sometimes you have to give to receive. Start with staying close together
as you gently throw the ball for your toddler to catch. (Get ready to leap into action as he flings
it back).
As he gets better at catching you could try tossing it from further away. If he is struggling to catch
the ball, try playing this game with a balloon, it will move much slower! Remember to shower
him with praise whether he catches the ball or miss it!

extra keys for creating fun and confusion. Lock all the locks and mix all the keys. Player has to find
the right key to unlock the locks. Player with maximum no. of unlocked locks in one minute.
This is a fun party game for any event be it New Year’s Eve, Christmas, family get-to gathers or
birthday parties. This game can be played very easily with kids also. Do not forget to share playing
this game with your friends/colleagues/family & kids…!!

Lemon In The Spoon
Race Lemon spoon race is a simple game with very few requirements. You will require lemons and
tablespoons. You can divide the kids into equal groups. Mark a start and finish line of the race,
and provide each participant with a lemon and a spoon.
Each participant has to complete the race by holding the spoon in their only one hand with the
lemon placed in it. They can’t use the other hand for balancing. The participant who drops the
lemon during the race is out of the game. The one who finishes the race first without dropping
the lemon is the winner.
In the end, you can have a final race with the finalists of each batch. Twist the game using mouth
instead of hand. Or you can also have an egg race using hard-boiled eggs instead of a lemon.

Bucket and Sponge This is one of the best outdoor games for birthdays, and can be played during the summer. It is
fun to play, and also to watch. You will require buckets, glasses, and sponges. This game can be
played by individual participants or teams as a relay race. The amount of supplies will depend on
the number of participants or the number of teams.
Mark a starting and end point, and maintain a distance of 20 feet between them. Place the
buckets filled with water at the starting point, and the empty glasses at the end point. Every
participant or team should be provided with a sponge.
The empty glass allotted to each participant or team is to be filled by dipping the sponge in the
bucket and then running to the glass and squeezing the water into the glass.
They have to continue doing this until the glass overflows with water. The participant or team
who fills the glass first wins. If this game is played by a team, a relay pattern can be followed.

empty bowl to all the participants. As the time starts, the participant has to blow the popcorns
with the help of drinking straw and put it in the empty bowl. Keeping in mind the popcorns should
not fall down.
Only those popcorns which have in the empty bowl will be counted and which have fallen down
will not be counted. Time limit is one minute.
The participant who has blown maximum popcorns in one minute will
be the winner.

Odd One Out For this play you need socks with different colors and design and a stop watch. Mix up few
children socks in a box. Keep one of the socks in the whole lot which does not have a pair. At the
start a player has to find the singular socks lying in the box.
The time taken by the player is noted down by the organizer. Then the box is again mixed and a
different sock is removed from the box. This is then given to the next player and his time is noted.
Player who identifies the single socks in the shortest time is the winner. For variation this game
can be played with pairs of shoes, slippers or ear rings.

Opposites The leader is in front of everyone and makes the players stand in rows such that the leader is
clearly visible to everyone.
The object of the game is to do exactly opposite to what is told and done by the leader. If the
leader tells them ‘to jump’, all the players are supposed to crouch down. If the leader tells them
‘to put the right foot forward’, the players have to take the left foot backward.
The player who makes a mistake and does not do the exact opposite is out. Other commands
from the leader could be; Blink the right eye, walk to the left, move your neck backward etc.
The winner is the player who remains till all other players are
eliminated.

4. There is a river you must cross but it is
used by crocodiles, and you do not have a
boat. How do you manage it?
Correct Answer
You jump into the river and swim across. Have you not been listening? All the crocodiles are
attending the Animal Meeting. This tests whether you learn quickly from your mistakes.
