As the State Senator for the Middlesex and Worcester district, including communities such as Marlborough and Hudson, I am proud to represent a large Brazilian-American community that is constantly creating new businesses, contributing its culture, and giving back to the community each and every day. Since I was first elected to the Massachusetts Legislature in 2002, I have been committed to serving the different immigrant communities in my district, and through that service, I feel that I have created a strong bond with the Brazilian community throughout the state.
The Brazilian Expo is a wonderful way to highlight all of the contributions that the Brazilian-American community has made to the state. The Expo will be a valuable resource to help fulfill our mission to serve the interests of the Commonwealth’s Brazilian community. You, as small business owners, service providers, and community members, have the vision, the knowledge, and the experience to help us pave the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to an even brighter future.
Sincerely,
Jamie Eldridge, STATE SENATOR (D-ACTON)
MIDDLESEX & WORCESTER DISTRICT

Prezados amigos,

TRUST ACT: The Secure Communi-ty was approved in 2012 and under this new law, the local police worked together with ICE. Many immigrants when pulled over by the police were detained by ICE only because they were driving without a license. In opposition to the Secure Communi-ty, the Trust Act cancels the coope-ration between local police and ICE, and if an immigrant is pulled over he/she cannot be detained by ICE for the sole reason of driving without a license.
THE DOMESTIC WORKERS’ BILL OF RIGHTS: When the US Labor Laws were passed in the mid-1930s, domestic and farmer worke-rs were left out mostly because tho-se jobs were performed by African Americans. After almost 80 years, the State of Massachusetts approved the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights giving domestic workers the labor laws they so long deserved. The new laws will enforce minimum wage, overtime, among much more.

SAFE DRIVING BILL: With the fail of the Federal Government to pass a comprehensive Immigration Reform, the Safe Driving Bill if passed it would allow undocumented immigrants li-ving in the State of Massachusetts to get a valid driver’s license. if everyo-ne is insured and licensed the roads will be safer for all.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT: For the past 4 years, the Brazilian Immi-grant Center, a nonprofit organiza-tion in Allston, MA has been fighting to improve the lives of millions of immigrants and the community as a whole. With determination, passion and incessantly love for the cause, BIC has been fully engaged with tho-se bills, and was always a step ahead to make the State of Massachusetts and neighbors a better place for all the people. “The Brazilian Immigrant Center has as its main goal to fight for social and economic justice”.

The acclaimed Charlie Chaplin once stated, “The most important issue in the world can be simplified to the point where everyone can enjoy life and understand it. This is- or should be the highest form of Art.” It is with this inspirational thought that we invite our guests to visit the Art Gallery featured at the Fifth Brazilian Expo USA!!
This year the Expo will feature several artists coming directly from Brazil, as well as other local artists! Two featured artists in-clude: Marina Lisita from Massachusetts and Irene Nunes from New Jersey!
They believe that art does not need to be studied to be unders-tood, instead the viewer and artist should be searching to make a relationship between each other. Come, enjoy the breath-taking art and viewpoints of these renowned artists.
ART GALLERY
Marisa LisitaFrom the time I was very young I lo-ved Art. John Adrian Cowell a Lon-don movie director and Gesco Von Puttkamer Photographer were the two people that Inspired me most, to express myself through my artistic abilities. Although I can see Beauty in all forms of ART, my favorite of all is painting Indians (Brazilian Native). I found them excellent ART subjects, because of their strong Tribal Values and Traditions. The way they take care of each other and Live Harmony in the Village. Even though they have suffered greatly, they are proud. I think to paint Indian, is to “Paint His-tory”.
Irene NunesBorn in Brazil and naturalized ameri-can citizen, the fine artist Irene Nu-nes have carried both Flags for the art, since she moved to the United States in 2002. Graduated from the Federal University of Fine Arts of Goias, Brazil (1985/1988) The Fine Art. Has attended numerous Nacio-nal and international Exihibitions. Amoung then, “Millenium Expo” in the Canning House Gallery, London in 2000. On that occasion, she traveled to Paris, France: and a special article was dedicated to her work, by Frota Neto (writer and Fine Arts critic, from Paris). In Brazil, an important work of Art is her large Scale Sculptures of concret in Aquatic Park -CTC, in Cal-das Novas Goias, 1994/1998.In 2002, she participated in the World Trade Center Site Memorial Competition, N.Y., with the design of a Large Sculp-ture, honoring the Victims of 9/11.
Rogerio MartinsRogerio Martins is dedicated to fur-niture conservation and restoration for more tha 25 years. Mr Martins began to work in this hometown, São Paulo, Brazil. He is stablished in New Yorl City for over 5 years conti-nuing his work. He offer complete restoration services. Master expert in the carpentry and refinishing skills necessary to repair an restore fina antiques as well as modern and con-temporary furnishings.
Sandra SimõesShe is Brazilian, born in Goiás and has resided in Massachusetts since 1999. She is married to José S. Si-mões de Lima and mother of their three children. She started to paint in 2004, inspired by and focusing on the religious arts, having the painting of Jesus, ’’Divine Mercy ” in eight countries. Currently the artist has been working at the series, “Paths...States of mind, and the Soul’s Sea-sons, “which to express the inspira-tion and experience of the human being’s in the journey day by day, walking through life, sometimes by a long way to go... sometimes for a brief moment only.
