Project Green Markets and Sustainable Consumption

The technical cooperation project between the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (Mapa) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Green Markets and Sustainable Consumptions, aims at increasing market access for sustainable products from smallholders and traditional communities in the Amazon region. The project improves the state policy for sustainable value chains, this includes operating five Chambers of Articulation with local partners in four Amazon states and strengthening the national school feeding program with healthy and sustainable regional produce.

The project engages in capacity building for management skills in cooperatives. Needs range from advice on bookkeeping basics and the development of business models to organizational development and sustainability seals. The employees of rural advisory services are being trained to teach content and to apply innovative advisory methods in their work with the cooperatives. A proper course has been developed for this purpose, CapGestão.

Sustainable consumption is also being strengthened, with campaigns to encourage conscious consumption and by providing information about production conditions in the Amazon region.

Private business is an important partner in the development of sustainable value chains. The project supports public-private partnerships (PPPs) in order to direct private investment into such production systems. Demand and supply of sustainable Amazon products are brought together through mapping of cooperatives and companies, match making, articulation and strategies of product differentiation, like, for example, traceability models.

Brazilian Exporters

Brazilian Exporters is a Federal Government initiative to promote Brazilian compa-nies on the Internet and its products and services in international markets.

Currently there are 27,000 exporters of goods and about 9,000 exporters of services joining the Brazilian Exporters, which database is updated monthly through automat-ic inclusion of new exporters operating either in the Integrated Foreign Trade System (Siscomex) or Integrated System of Foreign Trade Services (Siscoserv). The operations of member companies have also a monthly update of its new products and markets.

In order to boost the showroom input, Brazilian Exporters only maintain the registry of exporting companies from the past two years – previous and current year.
