BODY SYSTEMS INTERACTION

1. INTERACTING SYSTEMSa. Complex animals use

several linked body systems to respond to events in their environment.

b. Most of the interactions involve the nervous or endocrine systems. These systems are responsible for controlling and coordinating other systems.

2. CIRCULATORY AND DIGESTIONa. Food is broken down

by the digestive system.

b. The nutrients are exchanged in the small intestine at point called villi.

c. The nutrients diffuse through the capillary walls where they are transported throughout the body via the circulatory system

3. DIGESTIVE, EXCRETORY AND CIRCULATORY SYSTEMSa. Water is absorbed in the

large intestine where capillaries collect it and transport it throughout the body via the circulatory system.

b. The excess water and nitrogen waste are absorbed by the kidneys, which are the main organs of the excretory system.

c. The liver also absorbs wastes from the circulatory system

4. CIRCULATORY AND IMMUNE SYSTEMa. The circulatory system is the mode of

transportation for the immune systemb. White blood cells travel to infection sites via

blood vessels.

5. RESPIRATORY AND CIRCULATORYa. The Respiratory

System collects oxygen.

b. The oxygen is exchanged with the circulatory system in alveoli.

c. Capillaries surround the alveoli and exchange oxygen while leaving Carbon Dioxide.

6. RESPIRATORY WITH EXCRETORYa. The respiratory

system works with the excretory system to rid the body of Carbon dioxide.

b. The exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place in the alveoli of the lungs.

7. REPRODUCTIVE AND NERVOUS SYSTEMSa. The reproductive

system depends on the nervous system for timing.

i. Stimulia. Mating ritualsb. Time of yearc. Phases of the

moond. seasonse. Etc.

REPRODUCTIVE AND ENDOCRINEa. Pituitary gland

regulates activities of the ovaries and testis via hormones

b. Activate ovaries and testis at puberty.
