Plagiarism and copyright are often confused, but these two are completely different issues

 Plagiarism is a matter of ethics, taking others work and presenting it as your own

Plagiarism can be accidental and is not punishable by law, only by academic institutions

Plagiarism is a crime to the audience

All you have to do to avoid plagiarism is give acknowledgement.

Copyright infringement is taking another’s work without permission and is punishable by LAW.

Copyright can lead to

fines, or

even jail time…

Copyright infringement is a

crime against the individual who created the work.

Respect copyright by asking permission . . . But be disrespected by

being denied the right to critique.

Is copyright for protection of the creator, or

out of GREED?

Typical Crime Scene???

Building on old ideas has been going on since the beginning of time . . .

For example, evolution . . .

Copyright is focused on profit,

which differentiates it from plagiarism which is based on giving credit.

Digital literacy requires a

change in the way copyright is approached,

unlike plagiarism which can still be avoided through citation.

Although they are separate issues, one thing copyright infringement and plagiarism have in common is that digital technology is causing an increase in both

American culture is not in sync with American copyright laws

Fighting plagiarism is in sync with American culture

Plagiarism and copyright are totally different issues, when the two are confused student learning suffers
