BIODIVERSITY OF PLANTSAND ITS IMPACT ON
ENVIRONMENT
DEFINITION OF BIODIVERSITY
• The variability among living organisms from all sources including, among other things, terrestrial, marine, and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are a part; this includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems.
Types of biodiversity• There are 3 types of biodiversity :
• GENETIC diversity: genetic variability or diversity within a species
• SPECIES diversity:diversity between different species
• Ecosystem diversity:diversity betweem different region

•Why biodiversity is important ??
• Biodiversity increases ecosystem productivity; all of the species in that ecosystem, no matter their size, have a big role. A diverse ecosystem can prevent a nd recover from lots of disasters. Humans depend on plants and animals. For example, one quarter of all prescription medicines in the U.S. have ingredients from plants. If a diverse ecosystem is more productive, it's easier to get these plants.
• Humans also directly benefit from a diverse ecosystem: plants, clean water and air, provide oxygen, and control erosion.
LOSS OF BIODIVERSITY
• GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE
• INCREASED POLLUTION
• SOIL EROSION AND LOSS OF FERTILITY
VALUE OF A TREE
• A TREE THET LIVES FOR 50 GENERATES:
• Rs 5.3 lakhs worth of oxygen.
• Facilities rs 6.4 lakh worth of soil erosion control
• Provides rs 5.3lakhs worth shelters for birds and animals
Values of trees
• Creates rs 10.5 lakhs worth air pollution control.
• Recycles rs6.4 lakhs worth of fertility.
• Besides provide flowers, fruits and timber.
BIODIVERSITY OF PLANTS
• Environmental conditions play a key role in defining the function and distribution of plants, in combination with other factors. Changes in long term environmental conditions that can be collectively coinedclimate change are known to have had enormous impacts on plant diversity patterns in the past and are seen as having significant current impacts.[1] It is predicted that climate change will remain one of the major drivers of biodiversitypatterns in the future.
