DESCRIPTION

Thomas Tate owns and manages Tate Builders, a highly regarded construction business focused on customized home design on Martha’s Vineyard. Under the direction of Thomas Tate, the company manages each project with BIM-based architectural software applications such as Autodesk Revit, which provides extra flexibility to incorporate sustainable design elements and offers clash detection throughout a project. BIM (Building Information Modeling) allows construction professionals to create, manage, and alter projects using intelligent 3D simulations based on data about the structure. The generation of visual models can occur in 3D, 4D, or even 5D formats to increase efficiency and productivity, reduce costs, identify problems, and create solutions. BIM models incorporate geographic information, spatial relationships, geometry, light analysis, building component management, project management, design, and facilities management. A distinct advantage that results from the use of 3D modeling is clash detection. Construction and architecture software programs use clash detection tools to identify problems, interferences, and errors that may not be easily detected otherwise. Because a BIM model of a structure is actually an amalgam of multiple models from the disciplines of structural engineering, environmental engineering, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering, clash detection is extremely importantly.
