a Big Community Switch

How People Power worksWe all register by April

8thOn the 9th there’s an

energy auction where the cheapest supplier wins

After the 17th, you’ll receive an offer and then choose whether you want to switch or not (there’s no obligation to accept the offer)

How to register

• You can only register online at peoplepower.co.uk

If you don’t have a computer or internet access…• You can go to your local Library• They have computers and internet

access you can use for free

How to register

• You’ll need to go to peoplepower.co.uk• You register by following 4 easy steps

and filling in two pages of information• You click to register• Your registration will be confirmed

within 24 hours• After 17th April you receive your offer

What do I need to register?• You will need an email address to

register

If you don’t have an email address…

• Ask a family member or trusted friend if you can use their email address to register

• Up to five households can register with the same email address

• You can get your own email address for free

• Visit your local Library and• They will show you how quick and

easy it is to get your own email address

If you can’t use someone else’s email address…

• You will need to telephone your local council

• Or call in at a local council office• So that they can register you

If you can’t provide an email address and register your household online

What information do I need to register?

• You will need your household details• The name of your current gas and

electric supplier and• Your current tariff• How much energy you use or • How much you spend on gas and

electricity

You will not be asked to provide any bank or financial details

• Make sure you have your recent bills or annual statement handy

So before you register

• Go to peoplepower.co.uk and click on REGISTER

• First you enter your contact

details• Note: for

Mobile/Phone you can enter a home (landline)

number

• On this page you can also read the Terms and Conditions before continuing

• You’ll now be asked about your

current energy supply

• When you mark your

choice, more

questions will open

• Some questions are optional, but most must be answered for you to register

• These mandatory questions are marked with an asterisk *

• And if you don’t answer them, the form will warn you and won’t let you proceed

until they are completed

• Once you’ve entered your current supplier and payment method, you’ll be asked to

select your tariff

• You should be able to find this

somewhere on your bill

or statement

• But if you can’t, you should select the standard rate

• Next you’ll be asked how much gas and/or electricity you use

• If your bill or statement is clear about this, you can give it as kWH – Kilowatt Hours

• Or you can tell them in GBP – Great British Pounds, how much you spend on gas and

electricity

Your consumption

• You can tell them how much you use or spend per month, quarter or annually, depending on

your bill

• Note: You can only use kWH if you are giving an annual figure

• If your bill only shows one figure for both, you should divide this

40% for electricity and 60% for gas

• You have to enter the payment method you would like to use in the future

• Note: This may affect the offer you receive and the offer you receive may not

be for your preferred payment method

• Finally, you’ll be asked for

some general information

• You’ve now completed all the form filling and can go to next step

• Next is a summary page that shows all the answers you’ve given

• You should check the details carefully

• You will notice that the form has automatically converted GBP to kWH (or vice versa) and now

shows both

• If any details have come out wrong, you can click to go back to any page and

correct them

• Once you’re sure about everything, click ‘submit’ to complete your registration

• You should now get a confirmation message

• Note that, as stated in the message, you’re registration isn’t quite complete

• You will need to go to your email account to check for the confirmation email and click the link in the email to

complete the registration

• Your registration needs to be completed by midnight on 8th April.

• You will be notified of your quote after 17th April.

• You will then have until May 1st to accept the offer

Accepting a quote

• So you will need to keep logging in to your email account to check for your quote and

to respond if you accept it

• If you have used the email address of a family member or trusted friend to register

It is important to remember

• You will need to make arrangements with them to read and, if necessary,

reply to any emails sent to their email address in response to your registration
