BERGER’S BERGER’S SELF LEVELING FLOOR COATING
Epilux SL Glossy Floor Coating
Need for Floor Coatings
Protection of concrete from aggressive environments, abuses gg ,due to chemical or physical processesAbnormally high investments for repairs, maintenance and
h bili irehabilitationHighly prone for attack due to porosity of concrete and for seams & jointsseams & joints

Protection of Concrete Floor
Resistance to crackinggImpermeable to corrosive attackHygienic and clean floorsThwarts off microbiological growthBetter abrasion resistanceImproved chemical resistance & oil resistanceEasy maintenance and improved service life
4
Benefits of installing ESL systems
Higher compressive strengthg p gAllows movement of fork lifts/ trolleys
Aesthetics of floors remain intactDoes not crack and deteriorate easily
Elongated floor lifeChecks degradation due to carbonation/ neutralizationChecks degradation due to carbonation/ neutralization
Easy cleaning and maintenanceResistance to hot/ cold water/ cleaning agent

High Performance Floor Coating
S l h fl d l l h The flooring should be a sound concrete or fresh plastered surface and be free from oil grease laitance dust blowholes voids cracks
Select the flooring and calculate the area
and be free from oil, grease, laitance, dust, blowholes, voids, cracks, damaged spots, old loose paint, water, high moisture in concrete and high rough finishes should be leveled using screed or mortar.
Surface Preparation of Concrete
The concrete surface must be prepared mechanically using abrasive blast cleaning, scarifying or grinding (Diamond grinding)
Substrate deeply contaminated with oil and grease must be cleaned by means of flame jetting followed by cleaning with detergent water.
Weak concrete must be removed
All voids, dents are to be repaired and surface leveling must be carried out by using appropriate productsby using appropriate products
All dust, loose and extraneous materials must be removed by brush and or vacuum
Fresh laid concrete or flooring plaster for the full cure before primer application and the normal 28 day cure schedule be followed unless otherwise specified
Surface Preparation of Concrete SSPC SP 13
Joint standard with NACE # 6
Surface shall be free from form oils, air borne contaminants, Laitance and Loose concrete

Estimation of Moisture content in concrete
ASTM D 4263 is a test method to qualitatively indicate the q ypresence of moisture by use of plastic sheet method. ASTM F 1869 is a qualitative test to measure moisture vapour
i i f b fl i h d l i transmission rate of concrete sub floor using anhydrous calcium chloride. The latest device is handy and easy to use instrument which The latest device is handy and easy to use instrument which does not use pins and does not damage the substrate under test. The gauge is placed onto the material to be evaluated
d i kl i di t th d f i t i t fib and quickly indicates the degree of moisture in concrete, fibre glass or wood down to a depth of 3cm (1.2”).
What not to do?
Do not apply primer on substrate having moisture content >5%.Not to apply mixed coatings beyond usable ‘Pot Life’ period.Do not apply when the substrate temp is below 150C and greater than 350C.Do not add solvent or thinner in any of the coatings. After application of Floor Coating avoid over spiking/rolling or else you may develop orange peel effect in the finishDo not apply at relative air humidity >80%.Do not apply on the substrate suffering from rising dampnessIf the over coating interval between primer and floor coating or g p gepoxy screed and floor coating is greater than 24 hrs, then the primed or the screed surfaces must be roughened or emery’d and cleaned.

Spike rolling is done to remove entrapped air bubbles from the floor coating. f f
Spike roller
It is also referred as degassing from the concrete voids

The coating is wet for the first 20-30 minutes and using WFT gage f f
Measurement of Wet Film Thickness on floor
immediately after application did not cause an impression which required for touch up later as for the self leveling property it gets covered on its own
W F l Th k
WFT is equal to DFT in our floor coating as we are working with
Wet Film Thickness measurement
100% solids material. In this case the DFT expected is 1mm as shown in the gage on wet film

The painted area should be free from dust and flies till the drying is ff f

completed. Ensure to cover the area with a plastic sheet and cordon off from movement
T h d h d 3 4 h
It is always better to ensure that no dust falls on the coated film
Touch dry is achieved in 3 to 4 hours

minimum three days for other heavy work permission and not to forget epoxies will take one week to cure.
