Office Work

Project Manager for Studio Echelman on “Pulse” Fountain, Dilworth Plaza PA. In col-laboration with Olin Landscape Architects, CMS fountain consultants, ARUP Engineering and Koolfog Inc. Construction underway.

Renderings created for Studio Echelman using proprietary software developed by Autodesk Inc. which simulates catenary forms of hanging nets. Developed in custom plug-in which ports to Maya 2013, rendered and animated with Mental Ray.

Concept render for sculpture at the “GLOW” beach art festival, Santa Monica (upcoming)

3D Renderings created for Crosby, Schlessinger & Smallridge, interpreted directly from 2D engineering drawings to allow for aesthetic oversight and evaluation of pro-posals for a major highway bridge over Kentucky Lake. Sketchup and Photoshop.

CADD work contributed to planting plan and construction documents for the replacement of the Forest Hills Overpass with a pedestrian corridor, connecting Olmstead’s Frank-lin Park to the SW Corridor Park, for Crosby, Schlessinger and Smallridge.

Graphics contributed to for highway overpass project near Cleveland, Ohio.

Plans, sections and perspectives developed of the Boston Green Line Extension for public review of Lechemere Station section, with Crosby, Schlessinger and Smallridge.

Spatial studies for Crosby, Schlessinger & Smallridge of proposed retaining walls and infrastructure configurations for the Green Line metro extension, Boston MA.

Competitions

Renderings for a competition to design an architectural facade proposal for Balti-more’s 30 Light St. garage. Finalist. Design involves an LED light screen driven by digital animations of water, referencing maritime history of the site. Sketchup, Maya & Photoshop. In collaboration with designer Aidan Acker and Peter Boyer of Autodesk.

Renderings for a competition to inexpensively beautify a series of underpasses along high tension wires in Toronto, ON. Mural and lighting proposal involves color and designs re-lated to the EM fields produced by the transmission wires. Sketchup, Vray and Photoshop, in collaboration with designer Aidan Acker.

Art commision for the City of Boston. Yellow traffic paint on blue stained concrete barriers. Hand cut stencils applied using supervised volunteer labor, in collabora-tion with artist Vaclav Sipla and the Boston Public Arts Commission.

Photography

Digital photography. Craigie Dam Bridge, constructed 1910, Boston, MA.

Digital/HDR photography. Kresge Chapel designed by Eero Saarinen, MIT campus

Digital/HDR photography. Physical plant train tracks, Cambridge.

Student Work/Personal Projects

Public fountain prototype. Designed in Grasshopper and Rhino, laid out in MasterCAM, CNC routed on 3-axis mill with ball end bit. Polystyrene mold used to make plaster reverse for casting concrete.

Photomontage renderings and planting plans for campus redevelopment, Brandeis Universi-ty. Studio project.

Early pattern tests. Laser-cut 100% cotton paper. Pieces produced both at GSD facil-ities and subsequently at a private facility in Cambridge, MA. Laid out in AutoCAD.

Concept for a custom precast wall design for a sea-wall using digital fabrication tech-niques, with a patten referencing the undulating waves. Thesis project.

Rendering and shadow-study, custom sea wall railing concept, rendered with Podium.

Concept for a digitally fabricated, ultra-traditional landscape focal point.

‘Perforated obelisk’ allows sunrays to draw patterns across a hypothetical city park

Concept for using digital patterns to recreate a method for designing a decorative/ceremonial entranceway, referencing a nearby neo-classical stone gate from 1892.

Prototype exploring concrete cast into CNC-cut polystyrene. Designed in Sketchup, Grasshopper & Rhino, laid out in MasterCAM. Welded rebar frame & reinforced port-land cement.

Finished prototype. Cast high-strength white concrete, reinforced with welded re-bar frame and fiberglass mesh.

Painted plywood seating prototype I fabricated for local urban design firm. Top panels contain CNC routed maps and texts relating to local history provided by client. Pan-els cut by hand from CAD models, surfaces CNC routed, laid out in MasterCAM.

Concept and rendering for a jewlery box adorned with digitally-scripted pattern. De-signed in Rhino and Grasshopper, rendered in Sketchup/Podium.

Decorative concrete stamping test. Designed in Grasshopper, laid out in CamBam and milled on a home-built Blackfoot CNC 3-axis mill at the Artisan’s Asylum using vari-ous bits.

Layout and construction of wall for landscape art installation “Surface Deep.” Frame-work milled from nautical-grade plywood, bolted to the ground with custom waterjet-cut steel brackets. Decorative surface patterns of my design milled from PVC sheets. G-code and tool paths from MasterCAM, designed in Sketchup, Grasshopper and Rhino.

Photo of completed installation at the Internationl Garden Festival, Metis ON. Deco-rative panels hold living moss in place. Structure bolted to poured-concrete founda-tion hidden beneath the soil and gravel walkway.
