Bathur is not just an orphan, she’s #OurChild
Every orphan child deserves the loving care we
would give our own children. With your help we
can provide this care together.
OrphansInNeed.org
An orphan is easy to ignore when it’s not #OurChild
We see every orphan as #OurChild,
children who deserve the same
loving care we give to our own.
With our commitment to this
care we are using the #OurChild
campaign to highlight the plight
of destitute orphans around the
world, so that you can also help
give these children a chance.
2
We need your help to do what is needed, for each and every orphan we come into contact with.
The reality is that orphan children with no support are left exposed to the potential for abuse. We have seen this first hand and we yearn for
change. We want every vulnerable orphan to
receive the protection and best care that we
can provide for them. This includes:
• Adequate nutrition
• Secure shelter
• Clothing and medical care
• Clean drinking water and access to
sanitation
• A good education
• Loving care and guidance in a family
orientated-home or orphanage
Her mother disappeared,
leaving Bathur all alone with her
grandparents. Her grandmother
has been sick for a year now, and
her grandfather’s income is too low
for the three of them to survive, so
Bathur has to go to work to help
them make a living.
She was only 2 years old when her father was murdered.
Meet Bathur
She is 7 years old and lives in
Gujarat, Pakistan. Every morning
she wakes up at dawn, helps her
grandmother with the laundry,
eats a meagre breakfast and then
walks 5km to work. Like many other
children in the region, Bathur works
in a brick factory.
Once a week she goes
to visit her father’s
grave. She knows his
dream was for his
daughter to have an
education and a good
life, and Bathur prays
for it to happen some
day. With no help and
support, there is little
chance for her to ever
realise that dream.

Bathur’s story at

There are millions of orphans across the world
just like Bathur.
This Ramadan, we need your help to reach more children than ever before. Please donate whatever you can to our orphans.

This is Ousmane.
Ousmane has to spend his days
looking for scrap metal in the main
dump of Banjul. The conditions
there are terribly unhealthy, due to
the thick and poisonous smoke
emitted all day by the burning
piles of rubbish.
6
He is 8 years old and lives in Banjul, Gambia. Both
Ousmane’s parents passed away, and he was left
to his widowed aunt. She already has children,
and she counts on Ousmane to bring money for
food, water and clothing.
Going to school is out of the question for
Ousmane, and he sees no way out of his situation
where his childhood is spent sifting through
litter. He dreams of becoming a doctor someday.

He is at high risk of diseases due to the pieces of glass and hard plastic he sometimes cuts himself on.

Without you, orphans like Bathur and Ousmane don’t stand a chance.
Of the many ways you can help, below are some of the most popular:
Sponsor
By sponsoring an
orphan, you will
provide #OurChild
with hope beyond your
expectations. Your
regular gift of £30 a
month ensures they
are supported in all the
vital aspects of their
lives. See page 10 for
further details.
Feed
Food packs are a great
way to support widows
and orphans affected
by poverty. Your £30
will feed an average
sized family of five,
providing them the
much needed nutrition
for a healthy life. See
page 12 for further
details.
Build
A stable and
comforting home is
essential in nurturing
the well-being of
orphans. We have
many development
projects around the
world that need your
contribution. See page
14 for further details.
Gather
This Ramadan you
will undoubtedly find
yourself in many
gatherings, be it with
friends, family or even
work colleagues. Think
about the potential
each gathering could
have in collective
fundraising, simply
by passing one of our
envelopes around.
See page 16 for further
details.
Whichever method of help you choose. Whether it’s once or ongoing, we
can assure you of gratitude from those we help that will echo an eternity.

Not having a family or appropriate support network can destroy children’s lives.
10
There are deprived children living on city streets,
spending the night in abandoned buildings or
cardboard boxes. They have to beg for survival.
They’re often subjected to abuse, neglect, and
exploitation or, in extreme cases, murder.
Your help is a lifeline for an orphan. Through
sponsorship, you will provide:
• Food
• Shelter
• Clothing
• Education
• Medical Care
• Clean Water & Sanitation
• Loving care in a family-orientated
home or institution
We currently support orphans in several
countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh,
Gambia, India, Kashmir, Kenya, Mali, Nepal,
Pakistan, Palestine (Gaza), Senegal, Sierra Leone,
Somalia and Sri Lanka.
Orphans in Need have thousands of children waiting to be sponsored – this is your chance to help an orphan build a better life with less than £1 a day, £30 per month.

With your donation, Orphans in
Need provide food packs to help
widows and orphans affected by
poverty.
Foods are sourced locally with a
focus on nutritional benefit and
longevity. Each pack generally
contains rice, flour, oil, lentils,
pulses, spices, tea, sugar, vegetables,
soap and sanitation products.
You can feed a widow and her
children from:
• £30 for one month
• £90 for 3 months
• £180 for 6 months
• £360 for 12 months. Or £30 a
month for regular support.

For less than £1 a day, you can feed an average-sized family of five for an entire month.
Orphan & Widow Food Packs
In Kashmir:
• There are over
40,000 widows.
Because of
poverty, many
widows are forced
to give up their
children to poorly
run orphanages.
These orphanages
struggle to provide
basic care to their
children.
• 80% of the orphans
drop out of
education after
High School.

Kashmir Orphans Home
There are over 600,000 orphans in Kashmir due to decades of war, most are living in extreme poverty.Kashmir is the forgotten disaster. Decades of war
have left families devastated with thousands of
children becoming destitute orphans. We want
to give hope to these children by building a
quality home, housing 150 orphans, that will help
unleash the potential of generations of orphans.
Together we can raise the standard of orphan
care in this region.
By contributing to this project you will empower
future generations of orphans, producing
confident individuals that can positively
contribute to their society.
Any contribution is greatly appreciated but you
can also fund some of the targets below:
• Buy a brick – £150
• Construct a play area – £1,000
• Buy a share in the land – £2,500
• Construct a bedroom for 6 orphans – £5,000
• Construct a dining area – £10,000
• Construct a library – £20,000
• Construct an IT room – £50,000

All you have to do is ask everyone
that attends the gathering to give
whatever they can in our special
#GatherToGive envelope. It really
is that simple! No donation is too
big or small, as every pound you
raise will be used to change lives
for the better.

Just £3
Zakat-al-Fitr (Fitrana)
Before the Eid-ul-Fitr prayer, every adult Muslim
who possesses food in excess of his need, must
pay Zakat-al-Fitr. An adult should also pay Zakat
al Fitr for his dependants. £3 per person is a
recommended amount for UK residents.
Just £20
Eid Gift
This Eid, deliver a smile. Just as our own children
do, we want all of our orphan children to look
forward to Eid too. Your £20 gift will allow us
to provide a child with an Eid gift consisting of
clothing, food, sweets and a toy, ensuring they
too can share in the happiness of the day.
