Badin High School worked hard to be in school, in-person

five days a week for the start of the 2020-21 school year.

While the pandemic has necessitated some adjustments,

the school year started off well on Monday, Aug. 24, and the

school’s 600 students have been maintaining their efforts

very effectively so that school can remain in session. Badin

administrative teams worked hard all summer to develop

options for the year, but so far it’s been “all systems go” for

this unprecedented educational situation.

Badin opened its outstanding new $2 million Student

Development Center with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

on Sunday, Aug. 23. The Student Development Center

includes a Student Commons for classes as well as

meetings and students getting work done after school; the

Office of Campus Ministry as well as Service Learning; the

Hamilton Community Foundation College and Career

Center, with offices for three guidance counselors; and the

Athletic and Advancement Offices, including admissions,

marketing, alumni and development. The 8,000 square foot

SDC connects Badin’s main building and the Pfirman Family

Activity Center. It means that Badin students will not have to

go outside during the school day and it will also serve as a

new welcoming back entrance to BHS students coming

down from the upper parking lot. Thank you to all who

donated to make this new facility possible!

Congratulations to the Badin Homecoming royalty! Caroline

Hughes (St. Maximilian Kolbe) was crowned queen and

Avery Brossart (St. Joseph) the king on Friday night,

Sept. 25, as the Rams defeated Dayton Carroll 34-0 in the

annual Homecoming football game at Edgewood’s Kumler

Field. Other members of the 2020 Homecoming court

included queen candidates Ella Brennan (St. Peter in

Chains), Grace Harris (Sacred Heart), Caroline Kammerer

(Sacred Heart) and Jessica Rosteutscher (St. Aloysius)

along with king candidates Andrew Hegemann (St.

Maximilian Kolbe), Ryan Kirkendall (St. Peter in Chains),

Owen Mathews (Sacred Heart) and Michael

Schweinefuss (St. Maximilian Kolbe).

Emma Trusock (St. Maximilian Kolbe) is the president of

Badin Student Council for the 2020-21 school year. Caroline

Kammerer (Sacred Heart) is the vice president of

Student Council, with Kennedy Jarvis (Sacred Heart) the

secretary and Tatum Oliver (Sacred Heart) the treasurer.

Ryan Kirkendall (St. Peter in Chains) is the president of

the Senior Class, with Jayla Starks (Fairfield Middle) the

vice president and Sean Pendergest (St. Peter in Chains)

the secretary/treasurer. Liz Feltner (St. Ann) is the president

of the junior class, with Ryleigh Clemmons (St. Maximilian

Kolbe) the vice president and Jack Walsh (Queen of Peace)

the secretary/treasurer. JJ Even (Sacred Heart) is president

of the sophomore class, with Lauren Grawe (Sacred Heart)

the vice president and Erin Beeber (Sacred Heart) the

secretary/treasurer.

Badin was able to resume Kairos senior retreats in August,

with another Kairos scheduled for October at the Bergamo

Retreat Center in Dayton “These retreats are important and

the virus did not undermine their value,” said Mrs. Gina

Helms, director of Campus Ministry. “We had to make a

few adjustments, but the students are still having a great

experience.” Members of the August Kairos leadership team

included Chloe Niesen (Sacred Heart), who served as the

rector, and Sergio DeCello (Queen of Peace), Issy Helton

(Queen of Peace), Ryan Kirkendall (St. Peter in Chains),

Paige Long (Lakota Plains), Sean Pendergest (St. Peter

in Chains), Aiden Saylor (Sacred Heart), Emma Trusock (St.

Maximilian Kolbe) and Taylor Wissman (St. Peter in

Chains). Kirkendall will serve as the rector on the October

Kairos and be joined by senior leaders Brandon Du (Sacred

Heart), AJ Enginger (Queen of Peace), Caroline Kammerer

(Sacred Heart), John Kline (St. Maximilian Kolbe), Jessica

Rosteutscher (St. Aloysius), Caitlin Smith (St. John

Harrison), Maddie Thompson (Queen of Peace), Bailey

Unger (Queen of Peace), Isaac Wesner ( St. Maximilian

Kolbe) and Ava Zettler (Sacred Heart).

Freshman Grace Leitzel (St. Maximilian Kolbe) earned a

bronze level Presidential Service Award from American

Heritage Girls Troop OH2513. The Presidential Service

award is an opportunity to recognize outstanding volunteers

for their service and the difference they make in the

community.

October 2020

Badin High Open House Sunday, Oct. 25 Badin High School will host its annual Open House on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 1-7 p.m. Because of the pandemic, we are asking families to go to

our web site — BadinHS.org — and make “reservations” to attend. We will be accepting families of 8th and 7th graders — five families every 15

minutes starting at 1 p.m. and concluding with the final tours starting at 6:30 p.m. Badin is also hosting some smaller mid-week Ramformation

Night gatherings, either in-person or on-line. There are modified Shadow Days as well. Check the Web site for details. Badin wants YOU!
