A MESSAGE FROM THE CEOI am pleased to advise members that work on the new 6th Green at the Gladstone Golf Club and subsequently the return of the course to a Par 70 and ACR of 69 are now complete. These works are the culmination of years in planning and an amazing effort from our grounds team headed up by Chad Gilmour and assistance from our wonderful volunteers. Pleasingly the project was completed on time and on budget and another example of Yaralla Sports Club’s commitment to sport within the Gladstone Community.Coming on the back of some amazing feedback for our Tomahawk steaks in Pacino’s, why not join us for a Pint and Parmi in June. MONTELL PAULYARALLA DYNAMICS NETBALL CLUB

Montell had her sights on the Capricorn Netball Academy. This opened up the opportunity to attend the Capricorn Claws Open Trial Squad. For anyone that plays netball, knows how difficult it can be to make it even this far. She succeeded! She is now a train-on squad member of the Capricorn Claws.

CHARLI-ROSE ADAMSSOUTHS HOCKEY CLUB

Gladstone Hockey representative Charli-Rose was selected in the U15s Queensland team that participated at the National titles in Wollongong in April. This was her 3rd time representing her state, what an amazing achievement for a 14 year old!

BILLY BROWNEGLADSTONE 8-BALL ASSOCIATION INC

Billy is now the current Under 15’s Queensland Champion. He defeated 14 other juniors for this title and ended the event in first place. The final was best of 5, which he won 3-0.

Queensland defeated South Australia in the team final 11-3. Making the Queensland Juniors the Australian Junior Champions as well!

BRODIE HUNTWALLABYS JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE

This year he is plays in Wallaby’s U14 team, has made the Port Curtis team and has successfully trialled for the Gladstone Raiders team.

Brodie has also put his hand up to referee this season, which not only helps him understand but gives back to Gladstone Rugby League. This is also the reason why he was selected as this week’s Yaralla Junior Sports Star.

The Yaralla Junior Sports Star awards are now up and running for the 10th year in a row. With over $18,000 per year donated to great sporting individuals in Gladstone, this is undeniably the greatest sporting support program in the region. YFC BLOG See www.yarallafitnesscentre.com.au for more! Konichiwa!Having just returned from two fantastic weeks in Japan I thought I’d share a recipe for one of my favourite traditional eats.

Ramen is the ever popular noodle dish traditional to Japan with each region having their own variation including Shoyu Ramen (soy sauce-based), Miso Ramen (soybean-based) or the pork bone-based Tonkotsu Ramen. Ramen is so popular it is not uncommon to find many eager patrons queued up outside the best Ramen eateries at lunch or dinner time. A good Ramen can take up to nine hours to prepare (wow) however the recipe below will see you enjoying Ramen in your own home within one hour.

CHEAT CHICKEN RAMENPrep Time: 15 mins

Cook Time: 45 mins

Serves: 2

Ingredients• 250g chicken thigh fillet (preferably with skin-on)• Salt and freshly-ground black pepper to season• 1 tbsp unsalted butter• 2 tsp sesame or vegetable oil• 2 tsp fresh ginger, minced• 3 tsp fresh garlic, minced• 3 tbsp Tamari soy sauce• 2 tbsp mirin• 4 cups salt-reduced rich chicken stock• 30g dried shitake mushrooms (or 1/2 cup fresh)• 2 large eggs• 1/2 cup spring onion, thinly sliced• 2 90g packs dried ramen noodles• optional: fresh chilli slices for serving

InstructionsCook the chicken: Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Season the chicken generously with salt and pepper. Melt the butter in a large oven-safe pan over medium heat. Add the chicken, skin-side down, and cook until the skin is golden brown. Flip the chicken over and cook for another 4-5 minutes, until golden. Transfer the pan to the oven and roast for 15-20 minutes until the chicken is cooked

through. Remove from the oven, transfer the chicken to a plate and cover with foil until ready to serve.

Make the ramen broth: Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the garlic and ginger and cook until softened. Add the soy sauce and mirin, stir to combine. Cook for another minute. Add the stock, cover, and bring to boil. Remove the lid, and let simmer uncovered for 5 minutes. Add the dried mushrooms. Simmer gently for another 10 minutes.

Cook the soft-boiled eggs: Place the eggs in a pot and fill with enough water to cover the eggs. Bring to the boil and cook for 3-4 minutes (until yokes are set but still soft). Fill a large bowl with ice water and transfer the eggs to the ice bath once cooked. Peel eggs and slice in half lengthwise. Set aside until ready to serve.

Assemble the ramen bowls: Cook the ramen noodles as per packet instructions. Chop the spring onion and slice the chicken into thin pieces. Divide the cooked noodles into two large bowls. Add the sliced chicken and the ramen broth. Top with the fresh spring onion and soft boiled egg. Serve immediately.

NB: it is “polite” to slurp your noodles in Japan so enjoy!!
