Geographical Outlook

Australia is a continent,

an island and an

independent country. It

is washed by the Indian

Ocean and the Pacific

Ocean. More then 50%

is desert.

CITIES

The capital of Australia is Canberra.

The city doesn’t belong to any state. It is situated on the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), which occupies an area of 2,432 square kilometers.

Sydney-the largest city in Australia.

It is situated in New South Wales.

Adelaide is the capital of South Australia and an industrial city.

Perth is the capital of Western Australia

Climate and Wildlife

• Australia lies in the

Southern Hemisphere,

where winter comes in July

and summer begins in

December. Most of the

territory is dry and hot.

• Australia has an extraordinary collection of birds and animals. Many of them are found only there: the emu and the kangaroo.

• The kangaroo is perhaps the best known of Australia’s animals.

The koala resembles a teddy-bear and eats only the leaves of eucalyptus trees.

The dingo is a wild dog which is yellowish brown.

The emu is one of the largest birds in the world. It cannot fly but is a good runner.
