and Empire State English. Our visitorshad the chance to learn about the
language services that the CRCL offers tolocal private and public companies in
need of professional English instruction.Kim explained the collaborative teachingmethods that the center’s staff employ in
the classroom that differentiate theirinstruction from other more traditional
forms of instruction. It was interesting forour visitors to discuss the differences
between Japanese teaching methods andused by the CRLC.
Visitors enjoy a unique American diningexperience at the Albany Pump Station, a
staple within the Capital Regioncommunity.
Visitors meeting with NERIC ManagingCoordinators Mike Sylofski (E-LearningServices) and Lora Parks (InstructionalTechnology) to learn about technologyapplications within flexible classroomsand distance learning services. NERICprovides educational technology and
administrative support services, as wellas business solutions, to over 130
districts in NYS. Our visitors were heavilyinterested in how this technology couldpotentially be applied in Japan as well.

Ferragosto is an Italian holiday originally celebratedto mark the middle of the summer and the end of
hard labor in the fields. So, kick back and enjoy ourbeautiful grounds – a great place for conversation,relaxation, and a game of bocce. Bring your lunch
and a lawn chair. We will provide refreshments anda couple of bocce ball sets. Free and open to the
public.
Italian Cultrual Center’s 5th Birthday8/22/2019, 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Celebrating its Italian Cultural Center’s 5th birthday,the American Italian Heritage Association is
presenting a program and reception at 11 a.m. andits monthly business meeting and cultural
presentation followed by a reception at 7 p.m. Freeand open to the public.

During Track HoursThe American Italian Heritage Association will have
a booth at the races including food and gifts. Please stop by and help us to celebrate all that is
Italian.
“Celebrating Three Milestones” ExhibitThrough September 2019
During Museum HoursAn exhibit of photos, documents, artifacts, and
memorabilia commemorating the 40th birthday ofthe American Italian Heritage Association, the 10thbirthday of the American Italian Heritage Museumin Albany, NY and the 5th birthday of the Italian
Cultural Center (on the second floor of theMuseum). Free and open to the public.
A Second Chance Thrift ShopCome visit our thrift shop offering clothing and
accessories for men, women, and children,household items, books, toys, linens, small
appliances, and jewelry, all at reasonable prices. We feature a boutique room for upscale and
designer clothing for women. The Shop is locatedat 1229 Central Avenue, parking off of Frederick
Avenue. Hours: Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10a.m.-2 p.m. All proceeds benefit the American
Italian Heritage Association and Museum, a non-profit organization.
The American Italian Museum and CulturalCenter is located at 1227 Central Avenue in
Albany, NY. Since 1979 the museum has fulfilledits mission - to record and preserve Italian heritagefor present and future generations - with the help ofits dedicated, all volunteer staff. Ours is the largest
American Italian museum in the eastern U.S.maintaining 10 exhibit rooms, a Hall of History anda library including research materials. Our gift shop
offers many one-of-a-kind and “Made in Italy”items. There is a small admission fee. Hours ofoperation in August are Mondays, Thursdays and
Fridays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays, 1 p.m. to4 p.m. However, because we rely on volunteerstaff, please call ahead to confirm we are open.

This past month from July 28th- August1st we welcomed a delegation of 6
Palestinian HighSchool Teachers, and Guidance
counselors on an exchange projectlearning about the United States CollegeAdmissions Process. Pictured above the
group is visiting the woodworkingworkshop of Capital Region BOCES to
learn about college alternatives invocational trades, as well as their early
college courses to earn credits.
During their time in the Capital Region wevisited many of our area's top colleges
and universities to speak to theirinternational admissions office. Pictured
above the group is with University atAlbany Director of International
Admissions and Recruitment Mr. JohnPomeroy (2nd from right).
After visiting the University at Albany, andRensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) the
group headed over to Troy to visitHudson Valley Community Colleges
brand new Center for AdvancedManufacturing Skills(CAMS) which is a
groundbreaking new center in our regionfor aspiring new college students

a small nonprofit located at Russell SageCollege in Troy. Our organization serves ascitizen diplomats by hosting international

international students who are studying atone of the undergraduate colleges and
universities in New York’s Capital Region,to serve as our delegates to the 2018
SCUSA Conference. Preference will begiven to fully matriculated international
students who are in either their senior orjunior year, at the top of their class (3.2GPA or higher), majoring in a pertinent
subject area to compete for theopportunity to attend this prestigious
conference. Applications are alsowelcomed from visiting international
students (inbound study abroad)specializing in American Studies,
international relations, or other pertinentareas.

delegation from the country of Armenia aswe welcome members of parliament to
the state capital to get an insider’s view ofthe workings of federal, state and localgovernments. Visitors will be staying in
Albany for 7 days exploring differentgovernment agencies and speaking withvarious politicians and during their stay
here. For this project will be looking for 7host families willing to spare a bedroom intheir house and who are looking to bring
Armenian culture right to their living room.
