Be faster than your competitorTwo men were doing jogging exercise in a forest. Suddenlythey were frightened to hear roar of a lion and soon theyfound him coming after them. One of the men startedrunning fast. “Whatever you do”, said the other man, “youcannot run faster than the lion!”. “May be, but at least I canrun faster than you!” replied the running man, furtheraccelerating his speed.
We cannot be the fastest in the world, but we have to move faster than at least ourcompetitor, otherwise we will be the looser.
Without hard work,no one has been
eversucceeded in the
world yet.

FIELD CASE STUDY
Industry : Carbon maker
Application : Process blower
This case study indicates what happens due to not doing proper wiring as per standard engineering practice.
During commissioning of one Axpert-Eazy VFD, 690 V, 12 Pulse Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) a seriousproblem was reported. VFD was tripping with over current even when motor is running in no load condition.
What was the problem?
The full load current of the Motor was 526 Amps. Customer had taken two 240 SQ MM armored aluminium.cables. Each cable had 3 cores and an armor of stainless steel. Each core from both the cable shorted togetherand connected to VFD at one end and motor at other end. The armor was connected to cable glands at both theends - fixed to VFD panel at one end and motor frame at other end.
As soon as motor was energized on VFD, even at no load, current was about 185 Amps, VFD got trippedimmediately with over current fault, Engineer checked motor insulation, motor cable insulation and VFD, whichwas found OK. After checking everything, it was decided to call an expert.
An expert from senior team of Amtech was consulted. He checked the drive thoroughly and found everythingOK. Trial was taken after removing the motor, keeping only motor cable connected. VFD again tripped with overcurrent. Same observation was found even after connecting any one cable instead of two cables.
Then armor was isolated from the motor ( Very heavy rusting was found at gland connected to motor end) anddrive panel and the drive was started and was found working OK.
Checked the voltage at the cable gland and drive panel earth, it was found to be 180 V , The lamp wasACconnected across these two points, it was glowing, indicating that voltage was not a floating voltage.
Finally it was concluded that this problem occurred due to different earth potentials, because of poor contactwith earth due to rusting.
Separate three & half core cable connected, earth is connected at both the ends, now drive is working ok.
Morale:
Before the drive is started, proper earthing is to be ensured, rather than suspecting VFD.

YOU QUESTION, WE ANSWER
Why 1 HP = 0.746 kW?
1 HP is 550 foot- pounds per second, because in year 1800, James Watt had found out that a horsecan work 550 ft - pound per second.
Now, 1 foot = 0.3048 meters, 1 pound = 4.44822 Newtons.
Hence, 1 HP = 550 x 0.3048 x 4.4822
= 745.69 Newton-meters per second
= 746 Watts.(Approx.) = 0.746 kW
