Welcoming the gathering atAbhinav Theatre Jammu,Regional Director ICCR,Balwant Thakur said that asa part of the follow-up of thehistoric programme 'AnInteraction with RatanThiyam', it was necessitatedthat out of the world works ofRatan Thiyam are shown toJammu theatre lovers andpractioners. Though there is

no alternative to the live per-formance but at least this ini-tiative of ICCR and J&KCultural Academy will go along way in exposing the Jand K audiences to the bestof the theatre works beingproduced world over, headded.

The play opens withSaktam Lakpa andSakhenbi. They meetLamlanba, a hunter, whoinvites Sakhenbi to go to themountains with him. One ofthe guests at the hotel is amysterious woman dressed inwhite and accompanied by anurse. This turns out to beSaktam. She has been mar-ried twice, and has been in amental hospital. She seems tobe in the grip of a "livingdeath", and in a painful con-frontation she accusesSaktam Lakpa of havingruined her life and stolen hersoul. For his part he begs her

to come back to him so thathe can regain his creativepower. The two of them go upinto the mountains to becomelovers again. Near the topthey meet Sakhenbi andLamlanba. A storm blows up,and Sakhenbi and Lamlanbago down the mountain intosafety, while Saktam andSaktam Lakpa go on towardsthe peak, where they die.

Anand and Ananya Sharmashared the third position.Encouragement prize wasawarded to Saisha.

In B category SushmitaBannerjee, ShubhamBannerjee and SimranjeetSingh were adjudged first,second and third respectively.Encouragement prize wasawarded to Paras Jalotraand Guneet Singh.

In C category Azad Kumarand Surinder Kumar sharedthe first position. AshokKumar bagged second posi-tion. Neena Kour and SoorajSharma shared third posi-tion. Encouragement prizewas awarded to RohitManhas.

STATE TIMES NEWSRAJOURI: Army conducted an awarenessdrive on 'Prevention Measures DuringEarthquake' at Darhal in Rajouri District onFriday. The locals, school children and promi-nent members of the society attended the lec-ture. The drive was to spread awarenessamong the villagers about the preventionmeasures to be taken during earthquake.

During the lecture, the locals were briefedabout managing cases of fractures and con-

trol bleeding in case of accidents due to aearthquake. People were taught about firstaid measures to be adopted in such circum-stances and thereby save life and limbs. Mockpractice on immediate actions that can beresorted to in the event of an earth quake wasconducted to provide practical training to theparticipants. This initiative was greatlyappreciated by the locals and they expressedtheir gratitude for the knowledge imparted tothem.

STATE TIMES NEWSSAMBA: In order to com-mune with nature and bethankful for its blessings,NCC cadets of APS Sambaalong with the OfficiatingPrincipal, Rohit and AssociateNCC Officer Arti Dabgotraplanted saplings in the schoolpremises.

The aim of the drive was tosensitise cadets about the envi-

ronment so that they becomeaware of the depleting naturalresources and contributetowards saving them for pos-terity.

The cadets planted a largenumber of medicinal and orna-mental plants and showedgreat enthusiasm.They knewtheir hard work wouldrecharge ground water andprevent soil erosion.

School, Mankot and nearbyvillages participated in thecompetition to showcasetheir skills with paintingbrushes and crayons andexpressed their imaginationson the canvas.

The participants were felic-itated by the Principal,Government Middle School,Mankot. Speaking on theoccasion the Chief Guest con-gratulated all the partici-pants for showing such zealand enthusiasm, he alsoapplauded the students fortheir efforts and encouragedthem to make the best use ofsuch platform to displaytheir individual talent.

The parents and the localsexpressed their gratitude tothe army for conducting suchevents and said that organis-ing such events for youngstudents immensely helped inenhancing their creativityand helped giving their shapeto their expression.

STATE TIMES NEWSUDHAMPUR: The SocialForestry , DivisionUdhampur on Friday car-ried out a plantation drivein the premises ofGovernment HigherSecondary School,Jaganoo.

DFO Social ForestryUdhampur, Dr. RajanSingh was the Chief Guestwhile J M Tharmat,CEPO was the Guest ofHonour on the occasion.

Speaking on the occa-sion, the Chief Guesthighlighted the impor-tance of plantation àndadvised the students tonot only plant more andmore saplings but alsolook after them for mak-ing the drive a success.

Dr. Rajan Singh alsoacquainted the studentswith different species ofplants and their impor-tance.

Stating that students arethe best medium forspreading awarenessabout any importantissue, the DFO SF urged

them to play an active rolein the protection of envi-ronment and asked themto save it for the futuregenerations.

During the plantationdrive, saplings of severalmedicinal importance,ornamental and fruittrees were planted by theChief Guest , Guest ofHonour .All the partici-pants also pledged toplant more and moresaplings besides protect-ing the environment forfuture generations.

Principal Chanchal Devithanked the departmentfor launching plantationdrive in the premises ofschool.

She also assured theChief Guest that all thesaplings planted would betaken care of. Sham LalSr. Lecturer conductedthe proceedings of the pro-gram.

Among others, teachingstaff, NCC Cadets besideslarge number of local peo-ple participated in theplantation drive.

STATE TIMES NEWSBHADARWAH: AdditionalDeputy CommissionerBhadarwah, MohammadHanief Malik on Friday con-vened a meeting to review thearrangements forIndependence Day celebra-tions.

During the meeting, it wasinformed that the main func-tion will be organised atGovernment Boys HigherSecondary School where VIPwill host the Tricolor andtake salute at the march Pastby contingents of JKAP,NCC and students from var-ious schools. Later a colour-ful cultural programme willbe presented by the schoolchildren on the occasion.

Various other arrange-ments including security,

installation of PublicAddress System, medicare,power and drinking watersupply, sanitation, seatingarrangements were discussedand finalised in the meeting.

ADC directed theInformation Department tostart the day with playing ofshehnai wadan early in themorning. It was also decidedthat the full dress rehearsalsshall be held on August 13 at10:00 AM.

STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Continuing withthe series of functions as apart of Swachhta Pakhwara,the National Service Scheme(NSS), Campus Units,University of Jammu onFriday organised SwachhtaAbhiyan in the campus in andaround the Directorate ofDistance Education.

A large number of studentsfrom Distance Educationparticipated in the drive.

Prof. Jasbir Singh,Chairman, NSS CampusUnits, while addressing thestudents, highlighted theimportance of the cleanlinessand appealed them to spreadthe message of SwachhtaAbhiyan initiated by thePrime Minister NarendraModi.

Before the start of the eventall participants tookSwachhta Shapath to devotetwo hours per week for clean-liness and educate at least

100 people about theSwachhta Abhiyan.

They also pledged to takeup such drive on regularintervals so that a messagegoes to the student communi-ty to keep the campus clean.

The university canteensand surroundings were alsocovered under the drive bythe students.

Prof. Dhian Singh,Director, DDE appealed tothe students to take up suchtype of initiatives on regular

basis. In all 73 students partici-

pated in the drive. The eventwas coordinated by the Dr.Anju Thappa, ProgrammeOfficer, NSS and supportedby Dr. Anupama Vohra,Associate Dean, Departmentof Students Welfare,University of Jammu and Dr.Nisha Jamwal, AssistantProfessor in Hindi andNardeep Kour, Lakshmi andRahul Kundal were also pres-ent on the occasion.

STATE TIMES NEWSBUDGAM: J and K StateAIDS Control Society in col-laboration with DistrictHealth Society, Budgam,organised a training work-shop on HIV/AIDS forASHAs and FMPHWs hereat SDH Chadoora.

The workshop covered thefront line workers from blockChadoora and Chattergam ofdistrict Budgam. This is oneof the training workshopsout of the several workshops

to be held in Nagam,Magam, Budgam, andBeerwah block of Budgam.The front line workersreceived the wholesome train-ing on HIV/AIDS includingthe basics of HIV/AIDS andcrucial issues like injectingdrug use etc.

The programme is beingorganized under the supervi-sion and guidance of DrMushtaq Ahmad Rathar,Project Director, J and KState AIDS Control Society.
