…with powerful AR software and tools

Part 1“A journey through augmented reality time”Andy Gstoll, CMO

Part 2“Wikitude SDK on Smart Glasses”Andi Hauser, Head of Mobile Development

Starting point of mobile AR

2008

Philipp Breuss-SchneeweisFounder, Wikitude

A lot has happened already…

FUTURE

FUTURE

The BIG question is:

What do we need to take mobile AR to the next level?

2014 Gartner Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies

Gartner

2014(Andy) How do we

get here?

Source: Gartner Research

Where do we stand today?

decent AR HARDWARE

pretty niceAR SOFTWARE

some good AR CONTENT

TODAY“…the glasses are only half full.”

Requirement 1: better hardware

What is still needed?• better and more sensors: depth, cams (eg

infrared), compass, gps (location services), gyros

• faster chips to handle complex computer vision algorithms with less battery consumption

• actual “see through” glasses / contact lenses • (invisible or) fashionable hardware• better ergonomics, especially for eyewear• with HUGE field of vision

Requirement 2: more content

What is still needed?

• simply more, better, and AR optimized content• context aware AR content• new user interfaces specifically designed for AR• Content needs to be available instantly without

having to launch a specific app• AR content standard (ARML) to structure and

organize content

Requirement 3: better AR software

What is still needed?

• Software needs to be more robust• Less sensitive to light, weather, dirt, reflections • CV needs to be capable to understand very

complex environments• Recognize and track dozens of objects

simultaneously

We will get there!

awesome AR devices

mind blowing AR technology

fantastic AR content

SOON!“…the glasses will spill over.”

TRANSITIONS

What does the future hold?

TRANSITION 1

From “silo apps” to “context aware vision”

Manual selection of content / apps

Scenario1. You are out skiing2. You wonder about the mountain names3. You start the mountain peaks AR app4. You see mountain peak names

Context determines what content you see

Scenario1. You are out skiing2. You wonder about the mountain names3. You start the mountain peaks AR app4. You see mountain peak names

TRANSITION 2

Search will go visual with AR!

Paris

“type and speak” “look and point”

…smart glasses: from enterprise to consumer.

logistics and maintenance… travel and sports…

TRANSITION 3

…improving computer vision capabilities

2D images 3D objects

mastered by the AR industry. …..great achievements but early days…

complex environments

TRANSITION 4

…from phones to glasses to contact lenses.

TRANSITION 5

Thank you!
