Atomic Emission Spectroscopy: Short Lab Report
1430 Grading Rubric for IR SPECTROSCOPY Name(s)______________________________________
Lab Section (circle): Tues 1pm Tues 6pm Wed 1pm W6pm Thurs 1pm
Attach this cover sheet to your report. Include the following sections in your report in this order.
Title Page _____________ points (3 max)
The first page of your report should include, Title from you pre-lab, Names of Authors, Affiliation, hypotheses from you pre-lab, 150 word abstract.
Data Presentation _____________ points (10 max)
Collected data and calculated results data displayed in an easy to read and interpret format. Included the data used for the graphs (see below) in a table. Inclusion of error analysis as required by experiment
Graphs & Spectra _____________ points (10 max)
Displayed correctly with titles & comments. Curve fitting properly completed and displayed.
Include in report body
1 spectra for entire range of analysis with each peak group labeled with the species and vibrational transition (e.g. 0->1)
4 spectra, each one includes only one of the species and vibrational transitions with each rotational peak labeled with its transition wavenumber and energy level transition (e.g. 0->1)
2 Excel plots (one for 0->1 and one for the 0->2) used to determine the constants for H35Cl, curve fitting information included for both P and R branches
2 Excel plots (one for 0->1 and one for the 0->2) used to determine the constants for D35Cl, curve fitting information included for both P and R branches
Sample Calculations _____________ points (12 max)
Clearly laid out and detailed sample calculations for EVERYTHING. Show dimensional analysis. Are calculations correct?
Discussion (minimum 1 page, single spaced) _____________ points (15 max)
Interpretation & meaningful insight of results, comments on quality of data collected. Address the validity/accuracy of your hypotheses. Include any questions required for the pre-lab. Answers to Questions are combined into this section. Discussions of any issues and possible resolutions in future work.
