Atlanta is the capital and largest city of the U.S. state of Georgia. It is one of the South’s largest
cities. Atlanta is known as a major business city in United States. It is near the centre of Georgia and
is on the Chattahoochee River. The estimated 2013 population of Atlanta was 447,841. Atlanta
is the cultural and economic center of the Atlanta metropolitan area, and home to 5,522,942
people.
Atlanta’s public school system has about 100 schools and 48,000 students, Atlanta’s two largest
schools are part of the University System of Georgia. Together, Georgia State University and the
Georgia Institute of Technology account for more than 60,000 students.
Atlanta metropolitan area is the eighth-largest economy in the country and 17th-largest in the
world encompassing $304 billion. The city is the global headquarters of corporations such as
The Coca-Cola Company, CNN, The Home Depot, Delta Air Lines, AT&T Mobility, UPS, and New-
ell-Rubbermaid. Over 75 percent of Fortune 1000 companies conduct business operations in the
Atlanta.
Atlanta also contains various outdoor attractions. The Atlanta Botanical Garden, adjacent to Pied-
mont Park, is home to the 600-foot-long Kendeda Canopy Walk, a skywalk that allows visitors to
tour one of the city’s last remaining urban forests from 40-foot-high. Zoo Atlanta, located in Grant
Park, accommodates over 1,300 animals representing more than 220 species.
Atlanta has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons and generous precipitation
year-round, typical for the inland South. Summers are hot and humid, with temperatures some-
what moderated by the city’s elevation. Winters are cool but variable.
