Synopsis

Lots of you will have heard of ISO55000 but where did it come from, what has TC251 published and what is coming next

Asset Management is 4 Things

– A Biography

OR To quote Tom Prendergast –former Chair of the NY MTA – it is only one thing:

“So this is all about how I choose where to spend the MTA’s last $1000 to deliver best value?”

Aligning AM and Managing Assets

• We have been ”managing assets” for a long time

• The reliability engineering, maths and understanding of asset related risk around “managing assets” has existed for a long time

We needed something new and different which is why we wrote PAS55 and then ISO55001 as Management Systems.

We needed to bring our thinking into the business world:

• Greater linkages to Organizational objectives,

• Greater understanding of how Asset Risk links to Enterprise Risk

• Greater understanding of how Business Planning cycles sit within long term Asset Life-cycles.

6

Benefits of Management Systems

Embedding the way we do things in a management systems approach is an established way of addressing consistency in the context of rapid staff movement.

Management systems can (and indeed should) be agile and adapt to change

7

What about systems life

cycle thinking?

BUT –we should not need to reinvent the need to adopt Safety, Reliability or Systems

Engineering concepts everytime. Their need should be embedded in process.

Why is this important to you?Around the world
