Arrival and Day 1 of Course (Opening Ceremony) We were welcomed by Mr Aneez Ulumudeen at Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo, Sri Lanka and headed for Hotel Mandarina, Colombo to check in and prepare for the opening ceremony of the Coaching and National Referee and Jury Seminar. The aim of the seminar is to give proper introduction of the rules and regulations of Pencak Silat as a sport. It is also to ensure that those who attended the course will be more prepared to officiate in the coming National Championships Sri Lanka before proceeding to be officials on International Competitions.

We started off with the Theory Session for Referee Jury, led by Mdm Nirwati Binte Mohd Yassin, International Wasit Jury Class 3, monitored by Mr Sheik Alau’ddin Yacoob Marican, PBM. The things that were covered in the Wasit and Jury Theory course are as follow:

Upon completion of the practical session, we took a break for dinner and continued with the
competition secretariat course, which touches on the following matters:

Responsibility Before, During and After Competition
Athlete’s Registration and Balloting Procedure
Creating competition schedule
Forms that every competition requires
Manpower required to run a competition
Compilation of result
Disperse the result and report to all team manager

21st April 2017 – Day 2 of Course We started off Day 2 of the Course with the Coaches Training. The session was led by Mr Sheik Alau’ddin Yacoob Marican, Before we start with the practical session, we conducted a theory session for the coaching course. In this theory session, we went through on the following:

As they have attended the wasit jury course, which includes the rules and regulation of an international pencak silat competition, we continued the session by teaching the following:

We took a break for lunch before heading to a nearby school to introduce Pencak Silat to
the students.

After completing the one hour session with the students, we head back to our training
venue to continue with the Coaches Training. In the second half of the Coaches training, we
covered the following:

We took a break for dinner while those involved in the course get ready for their theory and
practical test.

22nd March 2017 – Day 3 of Course The day started off early as we head out for a 4 hour drive to Kandy, Sri Lanka, to conduct Introduction to Pencak Silat and 1 hour training session with the students from the following school.
1. Sherwood Girls College 2. Greenwood College
The response from Sherwood Girls College is very encouraging as the Principal strongly believes that it is important for the girls to learn martial arts as a form of self-defense.

The training session were led by Mr Anaz Ulumudeen, under the monitor of Mr Sheik Alau’ddin, as part of his practicum test session. Mr Anaz did a very good job with the session with Sherwood Girls College.

After completing the 1 hour training session with Sherwood Girls College, we proceeded with Greenwood College. As Mr Anaz has impressed everyone with his ability, he continued leading the second training session with more confidence. Greenwood College is an all-boys school, thus the response is even more encouraging. The Principal of Greenwood College will include Pencak Silat as part of the school curriculum and the session will start in April 2017.
We proceeded back to our hotel with another 5 hour drive after completing the session in Greenwood College.

23rd March 2017 – Day 4 of Course (Closing Ceremony) We started off the day early as we had a Media Interview with a local TV Channel. The interview went well and will be aired in April 2017. The questions posted includes:
1. Purpose of Setting Up Pencak Silat in Sri Lanka 2. Dr Annuwar’s future plan for Pencak Silat in Sri Lanka 3. Will Sri Lanka be able to partake in the Asian Games 2018 for Pencak Silat
The answers given by Dr Annuwar were very favorable as the Ministry of Sports has been introduced to the Sport and has taken strong interest in it.

Following the Media Interview, we proceeded with the certificate presentation ceremony. The certificate were given out to the participants who attended the course, took and pass all tests. The result for the test were as follow:

The certificate ceremony ended at 1300hr and we proceeded to have lunch at the Ministry of Sports (Sri Lanka). As the Deputy President was unable to make it back to the office for a meeting with us, due to an emergency meeting out of office, we proceeded to the airport and made our back to Singapore. Conclusion
The Asian Pencak Silat Federation (APSIF) would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Tuan Muhammed Anuwar Ulumudeen for being a great host. The participants were also very eager and keen to learn new things each session. APSIF would also like to thank the Singapore Silat Federation (PERSISI) for their support under Referee and Jury.
APSIF have high hopes for the development of Pencak Silat in Sri Lanka, and will continue to work together closely with Dr. Tuan Muhammed Anuwar Ulumudeen towards establishing Sri Lanka stronger and better.
Two coaches will be sent to Sri Lanka for a month in April to May 2017 to aid in teaching more variation of techniques.
