ASGT 2018in Review2018 was another successful season for ASGT, but not one without challenges. After our “water event” in January-the broken sprinkler pipe that soaked thousands of dollars of tech equipment and the building-there were some who thought we couldn’t get back on our feet and mount an ambitious season. Our volunteers prevailed, and we staged three well-received shows. The other “water challenge” was the record rainfall that caused a number of performance cancellations. Again, thanks to our wonderful volunteers and you, our supportive audience, we were able to shine brightly even when the weather did not always cooperate.
We have planned an exciting season for 2019.We hope you wil join us for another summerof “theatre under the stars”.
Please join us!ASGT gratefully acknowledges the support of the City of Annapolis, the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County, Anne Arundel County, and the Maryland State Arts Council:

A zany rich-boy-meets-hometown-girl romantic comedy, Crazy For You® tells the story of young New York banker Bobby Child, who is sent to Deadrock, Nevada, to foreclose on a rundown theatre. In Deadrock, Bobby falls for spunky Polly Baker, the theater owner’s daughter. But Polly takes an instant dislike to the city slicker, so Bobby vows – through cunning, razzmatazz, and a hilarious case of mistaken identity – to win Polly’s heart and save the theatre. Memorable Gershwin tunes from the score include “I Got Rhythm,” “Naughty Baby,” “They Can’t Take That Away from Me,” “Embraceable You,” “But Not for Me,” “Nice Work if You Can Get It,” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.”
Rated PG. Parental discretion is always advised. Parents/guardians should determine beforehand whether the subject matter is appropriate.

I am in love with the story of finding love in unexpected places. I also enjoy the exuberance and joy embodied in the music. Shows like this give the audience an escape from the daily grind and a glimpse into “good ol’ American Musical Theater.” What can be better than that?!?

songs for a new worldMusic And Lyrics by Jason Robert BrownOriginally Produced by The WPA Theatre, New York City, 1995 (Kyle Renick, Artistic Director)
Original Orchestration by Brian Besterman and Jason Robert Brown
Directed by Jason Harding Beall
Musical Direction by Emily L. Sergo
Choreography by AJ Whittenberger
It’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice... or take a stand... or turn around and go back. These are the stories and characters of today, the Songs for a New World. The first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County), this moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love and the choices that we make.
Brown transports his audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge, 57 stories above Fifth Avenue, to meet a startling array of characters that range from a young man who has determined that basketball is his ticket out of the ghetto to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man of her dreams... and a soulless marriage.
With a small, diverse, powerhouse cast and a driving, exquisitely crafted score that runs the gamut of today’s popular music, Songs for a New World is a great way to bring the next generation into the theatre.
Rated PG. Parental discretion is always advised. Parents/guardians should determine beforehand whether the subject matter is appropriate.
Songs for a New World is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www.MTIShows.com

I have loved this show since high school and also had the privilege to perform in it in college. It is a compelling piece with universal themes that all audiences can connect with. I look forward to sharing this work with the Annapolis community!

Abba’s hits tell the hilarious story of a young woman’s search for her birth father. This sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.
The story-telling magic of Abba’s timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship, creat-ing an unforgettable show. A large cast, non-stop laughs and explosive dance numbers combine to make Mamma Mia! a guaranteed smash hit for any theatre. A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads. And a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget!
