SPONSORSOur valued Sponsors are a very important part of our Club community with Sponsors contributing about 10% of our
annual revenue. Can we ask that you please be aware of who our Sponsors are, by checking in the Fixture Book or on
our website and on the board in the Clubroom. Whenever possible, please support them and make it known to them
that you are a member of the Armadale Bowls Club.
Also, if you have an idea or suggestion as to who could be approached as a possible Sponsor, please advise Jack Cooper,
Robyne Schwarz or Rob Millingen, who will follow up the lead. We all have wide circles of contacts
who could provide a source of new Sponsors
In the coming months, a member of the sponsorship committee may contact you personally to ask if you can assist by
providing the name of a company or service provider who might be a potential sponsor. Your assistance will be
greatly appreciated and benefit your Club.

OPENING DAY MEMOIRS
In my first official role as Club President I had the honour of Opening the Greens for the 2017/18 season. There were
over 130 Club members present together with the following dignitaries:
· David Southwick: Club Member & State Member of Parliament for the seat of Caulfield.
· Glen Eira Council Members:
o Mayor Mary Delahunty
o Cr. Margaret Esakoff
o Cr. Jamie Hyams
· Ted Montford: Sandbelt Bowls Region Secretary
· Major Sponsors:
o Jill Lance – Malvern Travel & Cruise
o Jignesh Jansi – Bendigo Bank
We were also honoured to have the following Life Members with us: Gaby Cohen, Leon Cohen, Norma Hertz, Harry
Hertz,Elaine Kovkin, Les Newman and Ken Rosengarten and we received apologies from Mel Barnett and Lionel Aarons
It was delightful to have special members Rochelle Hyams, Cecelia Moskow and Rae Roth join us together with all
of our club members.
David Southwick announced Colin Luber as the worthy winner of the Caulfield District Volunteer of the Year Award.
Colin couldn’t be with us so his brother Brian kindly accepted the award on his behalf.
Our catering team continues to show they are the best in the business with sensational pumpkin soup followed by
delicious open sandwiches. I was quite happy at this point but we then ventured onto the green to brave the cold
wintery conditions.
Those of us that were lucky to play on the Grass Green were pleasantly surprised as to how well it was playing on this
opening day of the season. Full credit to Ken Rosengarten and the green keeping team!
The day ended at the bell, followed by a much deserved afternoon tea of cheese, biscuits and cake to ensure
everyone remained fully nourished.
There were over 35 people who helped in the organising of the day and my thanks goes out to each and every one
of them. It always amazes me as to how many people help make our club what it is, including our house team,
the catering team, the greens and garden team, the social committee, the bowls committee, our club coaches,
our selectors, our umpires and measurers, the social bowls coordinators, the team behind the bar, the sponsorship
committee, our communications team, our safety response team, our photographers, our tournaments conveners
and, finally, our Board of Management. I thank you all as without everyone’s help, support and dedication, this club
would just be bowling club and not the Armadale Bowling Club.

LOST PROPERTY
Harry Hertz is collecting lots of lost property. He has asked all members to please
put your name on all clothing and accessories, so he will be able to return lost items
JOKE OF THE WEEKWhile golfing, a senior gentleman accidentally overturned his golf cart late one afternoon. A very attractive, young,
female golfer, who lives in a villa on the golf course, heard the noise and called out, "Are you OK?"
"I'm OK, thanks," he replied, as he pulled himself out of the twisted cart.
She said, "Come up to my villa, rest a while, and I'll help you get the cart up later."
The old guy noticed her silky bathrobe was partially open, revealing what appeared to be a very nice figure. "That's
mighty nice of you" he answered, "but I don't think my wife would like it."
"Oh, come on now!" she insisted.
She was so pretty, and very, very persuasive. He was weak."Well, OK," he finally agreed.
After a couple of Scotch and sodas, he thanked her and said, "I feel a lot better now. But I know my wife is going to
be really upset. So I'd better go now."
"Don't be silly!" she said with a smile, letting her robe fall slightly more open. "Stay for a while. Your wife won't
know anything. By the way, where is she?"
He replied, "Still under the cart, I suppose."
