Area of a parallelogram

• Let’s dive straight into it!

Area of a parallelogram

A parallelogram is a quadrilateral (four-sided shape). Each pair of opposite sides is parallel (they will never touch). All you have to do is multiply height by the base.

9cm is the height. 11cm is the base. 9cm x 11cm = 99cm².

Remember the ² and the unit of measure as you are multiplying 2 measurements.

Your turn

Mark your work

• Even if the question looks more challenging, we are still looking for the height and the base. Let’s look at this question:

• The height is 6.5cm

• The base is 8cm

• Height x base = 52cm².

• Ignore the 7cm, it is just extra information.

• How do you feel about working out the area of a parallelogram?

• Use your red hat to express your emotions.

Your HOMEWORK task

Draw 4 parallelograms, the area needs to be 24cm² for each.
