THINK AGAIN!

By Marc Maurey

Global Warming

Northern Hemisphere in March 1980. The ice covered an area of 16.1 million square kilometers.

Northern Hemisphere in September 2007. The ice covered an area of 4.3 million square kilometers.

Pollution causes

Carbon Monoxide-Motor vehicule exhaust-Industrial processes

Light Pollution

Waste

The Meat Industry

• More polluting than all cars, trucks, planes, and ships in the world combined.

• Animals raised for food in U.S. produce 130 times more excrement than the entire human population of the U.S.

This makes livestock industry Nº1 methane world polluting.

• Environmental Protection Agency: “The Runoff from factory farms pollutes our rivers and lakes more than all other industrial sources combined”.

• More than 260 million acres of U.S. forest have been cleared for grazing and growing grain to feed farmed animals.

(Two times Québec city)

• More than 90% of Amazon rain-forest land cleared since 1970 is used for meat production.

Land Use

• Livestock production accounts for half of all the water used in the U.S.

• Meat industry: uses more than 1/3 fossil fuels consumed in U.S.

Commercial Fishing

• Destroy/kills:

• coral reefs

• porpoises

• Birds

• Sea Lions

• Other bycatch animals

• Coastal fish farms release:

• massive amount of feces

• antibiotics

• parasites

Animals

• More than 27 billion animals are:

• Mutilated

• Confined

• Killed

• in horrible ways by U.S. meat industry every year.

What about humans?

• World population: 6700 million

• Earth produces 2700 calories per individual and day for 12000 million people.

250g could feed 50 persons with nutritious cereals

• In USA, 157 million tones of cereals, grains and legumes (all appropriate for humans) are used to feed animals....

• ...to produce only 28 million tons of meat.

Numbers

• Meat-eater: 4000 gallons (15200 L) water per day.

• Vegetarian: 300 gallons (1200 L) of water per day.

20 miles (32 Km)

• You save more water not eating 1 pound (0.45 Kg) of meat than not taking a shower for one year.

• Stop eating meat have a better effect than changing to an hybrid car.

250g

thank you
