AttendanceAttendance is taken very seriously

at Ardmore High School. The staff and administration believe that there is a high correlation between attendance and achievement and that regular attendance is crucial to all students’ success.

AttendanceA student may be excused for the following reasons:

1. Illness of the family- limit of 10 days per year in grades 6-8 and a limit of 5 days per semester in grades 9-12 without doctor’s excuse

2. Medical or dental appointment- documentation from doctor required

3. Death in the immediate family

4. Quarantine by order of the Limestone County Health Dept.

5. Religious holidays (PRIOR APPROVAL by principal required)

6. Court summons

7. Demands which in the opinion of the principal merit absence with PRIOR APPROVAL

8. Educational Value (PRIOR APPROVAL)

Attendance

• Parents or guardians shall explain in writing within 3 days after the absence the cause of the absence or the absence will be considered unexcused.

• The student whose absence is unexcused is NOT entitled to make up the graded work missed.

Discipline

• Behavior problems are an indicator of students leaving school before graduation

• Nearly 12% of Ardmore students had discipline infractions resulting in loss of class time.

CELL PHONES• Cell phones must be in cars or lockers.

• Cell phone may NOT be turned on during the school day.

• Cell phones are not to be used at any time during the school day (includes text messaging).

CELL PHONES• 1st Cell phone violation- Detention and

parents must pick up phone.

• 2nd and subsequent violations- Out of school suspension and parents pick up phone.

After School Detention• Mondays and Wednesdays

detention is held after school from 3:10-4:00.

• Tuesdays and Thursdays detention is held before school from 7:00-7:45.

• Students will NOT be allowed in ASD without a parent signature.

In-School Suspension

• In-School Suspension is a structured disciplinary action in which the student is isolated from regular activities but is not dismissed from the school setting.

• Students are allowed to do class work while in ISS

Out of School Suspension

• Students are not allowed to attend school or school functions until the designated time period is over.

• Students are NOT allowed to make up work missed while suspended.

Corporal Punishment

• Corporal punishment will be administered by school administrators when warranted.

• Parents may “Opt Out” of corporal punishment by returning a form found in the student handbook.

School Messenger System

• Numbers in STI will be called for the school messenger system in case of emergencies.

• Parents may check assignments and grades.

• Come to the school to pick-up your access code.
