Dear ISC,

Congratulations to our IB Art students and Ms. De Waele who put together a beautiful exhibition last week at Villa

Maria. Students proudly displayed their works and interacted with guests to explain the meaning and processes they

went through to complete each one. Well done!

A note from the PTA: the planned game night for next week has been canceled due to a low number of respondents.

Also, the two remaining meeting dates have been set. On Monday, April 15th at 6pm, there will be a general meeting

to go over upcoming events and the last meeting will be Wednesday, June 15th at 6 pm. Both meetings will be held in

the Maker Space room.

Save the date! Our annual Wine & Bubbles fundraising event is Saturday, May 18th. All proceeds this year will be

earmarked to purchase a new stage and tables for the covered area on the elementary/middle school side. Details will

be shared next week and tickets will soon be available for purchase.

Parents, for the upcoming Easter Break, vacation dates for the public schools do not match ours and you will

need to have an official travel letter if you are going off-island. Contact Ms. Camille in the main office soon

and she will prepare a letter.

Sincerely,

Douglas Vaughan

Elementary closed a two-week-long literacy celebration by holding an assembly where we dressed as our favorite book characters. Among other special visitors, Sheila Payne enter-tained us with a story from The Book of Knowledge. The coau-thor of Star Child, Shalini Iyengar held some reading sessions which students and teachers truly enjoyed. In all, a great expe-rience showcasing the many ways of telling stories and devel-oping a higher appreciation for the language diversity of our school. The winner of the poster competition was Ishaan Bhavnani, his pr ize was to order books from Amazon for a set amount. This is being sponsored by Mrs. Richards, thanks a million for all your support!.

During Animal Awareness Week funds and items were collected for the animal shelter. They continue to need food for animals that are dropped off there which they'll be fostering for short periods of time. The total came to Nafls. 2,003.50 and were presented by the 5th grade volunteers after having various fundraising activities as well as adding some donations. These funds will be used for upcoming sterilization campaigns, and our to-tal will help cover the cost of fixing about 35 animals. Thank you! Bob the Flamingo also came to visit us to teach us how to properly treat animals and the environment. Stu-dents had a chance to ask questions to Odette not only about flamingos but animals in general. The winner of the Guess the Treats was Sagar Mirchandani being the first with the closest guess of 1000. There were 930 treats in the container. Thanks to the 5th grade volunteers who stepped up to the plate to help their community be a better place to live. Thanks to everyone who contributed one way or another, here is a link to the video about AAW 19 https://animoto.com/play/Fm31O4s11koVRTi0GCDU8Q If you'd like to help more, you can always give donations directly to the animal shelter. There are also addi-tional organizations that help animals in Curacao such as CARF, Feed Friends Foundation, Pippi's Opvang Curacao and iAnimal. All these learning experiences extending learning beyond the classroom and the day to day at school is what

makes ISC an amazing place to teach and learn.

Sharks Athletics: Soccer Results

ISC’s junior varsity soccer team missed the semifinals by one goal. In the last match we tied with the team that eventually earned the #1 seed (which is really good but we fell short). In the round-robin tournament ISC scored 13 goals in favor and allowed 13 goals against us. The team won two games, tied two games, and lost one match. The players fought till the end but came up just short. ISC’s final position is 4th place out of the 19 participating schools. Congratula-tions to our players and we look forward to improving our position next year. The remaining three teams will now compete for the championship; the top seed plays the winner of the match between the 2nd and 3rd seeded teams.

IB Art Exhibition 2019

A two year journey has come to an end for our 12th grade art students. This has been celebrated with a wonderful and successful art exhibit that made me as their teacher very proud. I always is a great journey to see young artists develop throughout the years. We had the art exhibit at villa Maria this year, the land house really gave the finishing touches to the art pieces. Students thought carefully about how they wanted to display their work and made use of the beautiful spaces within the building.

Last Friday, first grade concluded their literacy celebration with a poetry reading at our public library Biblioteka Nasho-nal Korsou (BNK). Students read original poems and a few poems from their favorites poets. Afterwards, students en-joyed a tour of the children’s library and found a nice collection of books in Dutch, Spanish, Papiamento and English books.

Students are eager to return to the library with their library card! If you have not checked out the public library, first grade recommends a visit is in order. A special thanks to Mrs. Amy Maria at BNK for her warm welcome, preparing the room for our visit and introducing the 1st graders to the children’s section of the library! Amy Maria is the events coordinator for the BNK and is working on several community events at the library. Check out the library’s website bnkcuracao.com for upcoming events.
