Chapter 1.
Introduction
In this document two utilities, Command File Utilities and Report Generation
Utilities are described.
1. Command File Utilities
Command files form an integral part of the maintenance procedures of C-DOT DSS
MAX. One situation where the command files come really handy is during the
installation of DSS MAX.
Creation of a command file through `crp' commands is a tedious process which takes
almost the same effort of issuing the commands one by one. With a fair amount of
knowledge about Unix Operating System it is very easy to create a command file
containing hundreds of commands. But it is not fair to expect that all operating
personnel would have adequate Unix exposure. So a few utilities have been made to
ease this operation. These are discussed in detail in the following chapters.
Chapter 2 describes the utilities present in this floppy and their use.
Chapter 3 describes the loading procedure.
Chapter 4 describes the operational procedure for all the utilities.
Chapter 5 describes limitations and checks.
2. Report Generation Utilities
It is a general purpose tool designed for generation of various reports related for
C-DOT DSS MAX. The report generated by this tools are not as detailed as
generated by CRP. The information is described in the following chapters.

Chapter 2.
Utilities Present
The different utilities contained by this cartridge are listed below alongwith their use &
the directories in which they are loaded.

Chapter 3.
Loading Procedure
3.1. PURPOSE
When a number of terminal cards have to be equipped or hundreds of subscribers
have to be created, then the need arises for a command file. A typical example is the
installation of C-DOT DSS MAX. During installation, all the terminal cards in the
exchange have to be equipped and a few thousands of subscribers have to be
created. Specific requirements of each subscriber are not taken into consideration
during this stage. So a set of commands with a pre-defined parameter set is
required.
Two utilities `equip' and create' help the operator in the creation of command files
which can be used for equipage of terminal cards and creation of subscribers.
3.2. GENERAL CONVENTIONS
The following conventions are used in this document.

3.3. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
These utilities are supplied in a cartridge. The cartridge contains the utilities and
their support files. To load the utilities into the hard disk follow the procedure given
below:
Insert the cartridge in the cartridge drive in the IOP log in ADMN. Give the
commands,

Operational Procedures
4.1. EQUIPAGE UTILITY
This utility is in /u/admn/cmdfile
The name of the utility which creates the command file for equipping terminal
cards is "equip". First change directory by command.
iop5x>cd /u/admn/cmdfile
Step 1 :
Invoke the utility by typing,
iop5x>equip
This utility is a user friendly one, taking inputs from the operator one by one and
creates the command file accordingly. At first, the name and version of utility
appears on the screen.

Step 2 :
The first question displayed would be , whether the system configuration is SBM or
MBM. If the config. is SBM, then answer as `1', otherwise answer as `2'.
Enter the config. type [SBM=1 MBM=2] : 1
Step 3 :
The next few questions are regarding the slot where from equipping have to start
i.e. the starting BM No, Rack no, Frame no. and Slot no. will be asked one by one.
In case the configuration is SBM then BM no. will be assumed as `1' and the
question asking the BM No. will be skipped. If, it is MBM, then the BM No. will be
asked. In case starting slot being 1-1-2-3, then enter as follows:

Enter the Base Module no.[1 to 16 ] : 1
Enter the starting rack no. [ 1 to 3 ] : 1
Enter the starting frame no. [ 1 to 6 ] : 2
Enter the starting slot no. [3-10 & 17-24] : 3
Note : 1. In case of SBM, if you are equipping TU1 than it will display.
Please equip TU1, card by card (Trunk TU)
2. If you give slot no. 3 of TU1 in MBM then it will display
"slot for ANNC card. Restart.
Step 4 :
The following question enquires about the no. of frames in which equipping is
required. Suppose the equipping is necessary for 9 frames enter
Enter the no. of frames to be equipped : 9
Step 5 :
After this the hardware type of card to be equipped is asked. The choices available
are CCB=1, SUB [LCC]=2, DTK-CAS=4, DTK- CCS=5, TWT=3 and E & M=7.
Choose the required type. Suppose LCC is required to be equipped then enter the
value as `2'.
Enter the hardware type of card : 2
Step 6 :
A warning will be displayed as follows:
Please check the values before proceeding
If any value is wrong, press DEL & restart
At this point the operator may verify the values keyed in and if any value is found
to be wrong, pressing DEL (

Step 8 :
The display will show
Command file creation starts....

The command file eq-sub has been created.
Following this the utility gives an option to modify the hardware type of selected
cards. In this way it is possible for the operator to equip a few CCB cards in
between LCC cards. Following question is displayed .
Do you want to modify equipage of few slot (y/n)?
If modification is required then "y" should be entered and if not required, enter "n".
Giving "n" displays the iop5x> prompt.
Step 9 :
If "y" option is chosen then the utility will further enquire about the particular
slot(s) and hardware type(s) which is to be modified. Suppose the slot to be modified
is 1-1-2-10 to type CCB
Enter the slot no. to be modified [BM-RACK-FRM-SLT]
[Type 0 to end ] : 1-1-2-10
Enter hardware type for this slot : 1
Enter slot no. to be modified [BM-RACK-FRM-SLT]
[Type 0 to end ] : 0
Note that after the slot(s) to be modified is entered, the same question is answeredas `0' instead of slot no. This terminates entry.

Once this operation is over utility displays the following message and goes back to
iop5x> prompt.

Thus the command file for equipping terminal cards has been created. Operator
may create as many command files as he requires but each time the name of the fileshould be unique and repetition should be avoided.
4.2. SUBSCRIBER CREATION UTILITY
Step 1 :
Change directory to "/u/admn/cmdfile" if it is not done already.

Step 2 :
Invoke utility "create" as follows:
iop5x>create
Step 3 :
Operation of this utility resembles the operation of "equip" utility which was
discussed in the previous section. The first question will be same i.e
Enter the config. type [SBM=1 MBM = 2] :
Operator may enter `1' or `2' as per his requirement. Consider the config. to be
MBM, then `2' has to be entered.
Step 4 :
The next question will be about the starting directory no. Also it will display awarning as
Warning : Ensure that exch code has been created
This warning should not be ignored as it is absolutely essential to create exchange
code before creation of subscribers. Otherwise the command file, when executed will
fail to create even a single subscriber. Also care should be taken so that the starting
directory no. matches with exchange code and digit length. For example if the
exchange code is "2" and digit length is "5" then the starting directory no. may be
"20000".
Enter the starting dir no. : 20000
Step 5 :
The following question asks for the no. of subscribers to be created. Here also a
warning is displayed as
Warning : The max. no. of subscribers in a file is 999
command file cannot have more than 999 lines as per `crp' requirement and the
utility creates the command files on a per-BM basis. So even if operator has to
create more than 999 subscribers per BM, (as in 1.4K SBM) he has to proceed
with 999 lines in one file and the rest in some other file.
Enter no. of subscribers : 999
Step 6 :
After this the starting TEN is required to be entered. For example if your starting
TEN is 1-1-2-3-1 then answer questions as follows:

Enter the starting rack no. [1 to 3] : 1

Note:
1. The utility proceeds to create subscribers in the following order. Starting
from rack 1 passes to rack 2 and finally to rack 3. It omits the 24th slot TU4
of BM as it is TTC.
2. If given for frame 1 in SBM than it will display
"TU1 in SBM is Trunk TU"
"Ensure your entries are ok"
3. If given for slot 3 of Ist TU it will display
"Slot for Annc Card. Restart"
Step 7 :
Next question is regarding default instrument type. The operator may enter the
type which is in majority among the subscribers. It can be either "DECAD"
(Decadic-Rotary/Push button) or "DTMF" (Tone - Push Button)
Enter the instrument type [DECAD/DTMF]:DECAD
Step 8 :
Finally the utility asks about outward dialling nature of subscribers, i.e. with STD
or without STD. If most of the subscribers do require STD facility, keep this option
as `STD' only. The subscriber characteristics can be modified later as per specific
requirement.
Enter the nature of subscribers [LCL=2, STD=5, ISD=5] : 6
Step 9 :
At this point the utility gives the message "please check the values before
proceeding if some value is wrong press DEL to restart". After this the name for
command file is asked which can be given as "cre-sub-1". Please note that the name
is given as "cre-sub-1" so as if more than one file is required, the names can be givenas "cre-sub-2" etc.
Enter name for command file : cre-sub-1
Step 10 :
The utility displays the message.

Now one particular requirement comes into picture. If the no. of cards available in
the exchange for the time being is less than the max. equipage, then it is only
logical to distribute them evenly over all the TUs so that concentration can bereduced.
This would lead to empty slots in between, slots where creation of subscribers have
to be avoided. To do this the utility gives the user an option to avoid some slots. A
question will be asked after the file creation.
Do you want to avoid creation in few slots (Y/N) ?
If above mentioned situation exists, choose `y' option, other wise choose "n". If `n' is
chosen, the utility gives back the iop5x> prompt.
Step 11 :
The `y' option leads to further questions. For example if slot no. 1-2-1-3 and 1-2-6-
24 has to be avoided,
Enter the slot no. to be deleted [BM-RACK-FRM-SLT]
[Type 0 to end] : 1-2-1-3
Enter the slot no. to be deleted [BM-RACK-FRM-SLT]
[Type 0 to end] : 1-2-6-24
Enter the slot no. to be deleted [BM-RACK-FRM-SLT]
[Type 0 to end] : 0 On giving `0' the entry will be terminated.
Note:
Please make sure the correct slot no is only entered, because the
directory numbers meant for the deleted slots will be omitted so that
in future when cards are inserted in the empty slots, they can be
given the corresponding dir no., so as to maintain sequence.

and when it finishes the operation, gives back the iop5x> prompt saying.

Thus the first file for subscriber creation is made. If more subscribers are required
to be created then the utility has to be reinvoked and care is to be taken when
giving the name for command file. Repetition should be avoided.
4.3. CRE-SPACE2
This utility increases the disk space by deleting unnecessary files. To invoke thisutility type cre-space on iop5x>:
iop5x>cre-space2
This will display following messages on screen.

It is to be noted that the following message % Trns ... will appear only when
IOP is in warm start level.

Delete the File Groups Regularly by using command
del-fgp-file at crp prompt using option trnsf and ioh for
fgp option and return key for the first option. Also deletebilling cycle bc {from date -> to date} regularly only after taking
BACKUP on cartridge tape ...
This shows that your detail billing files have used `6778' blocks & if the detail
billing files are for more than two months then take the back-up of bc & delete these
files using del-fgp with file group as bc {from date -> to date}.
4.4. UTIL_MBM_1
This utility is used in MBM exchanges to equip modules, frame, service ckts like
mfc, ttc, annc of BM's. For equipping frames of LM's use crp command

where 1 & 2 are the physical BM nos, you want to equip. At one time you can give
for all BM's you want to equip.
The system will then display.

4.6. CHANGE-PORT UTILITY
This utility is useful in case when your default printer port (icc_0 is faulty), & you
are required to change the printer port on some other serial link. (i.e. icc_4 or icc_7).
For this utility first login into lp account with password DSSlp.
This is invoked by typing on

4.7. TAPECOPY UTILITY
The utility is used for duplication of cartridges & floppies. This can be invoked only
from root account. Sufficient disk space should be there for copying in source
floppy/cartridge.
First login into root account with password as DSS root
# cd $TOOLP
Case 1 : Cartridge duplication procedure.
# tapecopy -t
suppose you are duplicating BMDC of SBM 8.9 which is having 1284
blocks then command given is

4.8. PRINT UTILITY
This utility is useful for printing more number of pages or big file in a single
command without errors.
The utility is invoked by typing

iop5x>print tst.log
4.9. NCBRPRN UTILITY
This utility helps in printing the detail bill records by prescribing the page length.
This utility processes on sorted rgen ncbr output file.
Using rgen utility `ncbr' generate an output file of detail bill record say `dbill' using
rgen document. Then on iop5x> prompt give command.
iop5x> ncbrprn dbill | print
It will then display
DETAIL BILL PRINT UTILITY
This utility process on sorted Rgen Ncbr Output Files.
DIRNO FROM : (give starting Dirno.)

Printer Page Length : (length of the page i.e. how may records areto be printed on one page).

4.10. RGEN UTILITY
This is a report generation utility and for invoking this utility refer Chapter 6 to 11.
4.11. VERIFICATION OF FILES
The user may verify the command files after they have been created. To do this theoperator has to give the command
iop 5x >pg filename
where "filename" stands for any command file name created. This command will
display the file page by page and the operator has to press `return' key after seeing
each page.
4.12. EXECUTING A COMMAND FILE
The above mentioned utilities only create the required command files. These files
have to be executed to solve the real purpose of equipping terminal cards andcreating subscribers.
Step 1: From iop5x> prompt enter crp.

Chapter 5.
Limitations & Checks
In this chapter some limitations of these command file creation utilities, are
discussed. Also the error messages and their significance are listed.
5.1. LIMITATIONS
i) These utilities take the input one by one and if operator wants to go back to a
previous option, it is not possible. Entry has to be aborted by pressing DEL &
the whole process has to be restarted afresh again.
ii) These utilities use a built-in algorithm due to which the creation of nos and
equipping of cards will always be from rack 1 to rack 2& to rack 3. Similarly
the frames are increased one by one from the starting value till end of rack is
reached.
Suppose, directory nos. are to be created in a irregular fashion, then it has to
be done taking one frame at a time. As a result, many command files will be
created and each would have to be executed separately.
iii) In case of choosing the option to avoid some slots during creation, care has to
be taken while keying in the slot details. If any wrong slot is entered which is
not present in the command file, the first slot entries will be deleted.
5.2. CHECKS
i) If SBM configuration is chosen the utility assumes the BM no. to `1' thereby
reducing one entry.
ii) If any value does not fall in the range shown, the utility repeats the question
till correct value is entered.
iii) While equipping cards the TU1 of SBM is avoided from being equippedbecause it is normally trunk TU. A message is displayed.
Please equip TU1, card by card (Trunk TU)
indicating that the various types of cards in this TU have to be equipped one
by one. Similar kind of message is displayed if sub creation is tried on this
TU.

iv) Similarly if operator tries to equip the 3rd or 4th slot in TU1 of BM (Rack 1),
the utility prevents him from doing so. This is necessary because these slots
are reserved for announcement card.
v) Also the utility avoids equipping or creation in the 24th slot of TU4 in BM
(Rack 1) as it is reserved for TTC.
vi) The utility verifies the existence of the support utilities and if it is not able to
find them gives the following message and gives back the prompt.
Support files missing. Exiting...
This can be solved by installing the utilities again from floppy.
vii) The support utility `dele' is a standalone module which can be invoked
separately, if necessary.
In case the command file has been already created and subscriber creation in
certain slots have to be avoided later, it can be done by typing
iop5x>dele filename
Here the "filename" indicates the name of the command file in which certain
slots have to be deleted. Then this utility asks for slot no. & deletes the
entries pertaining to that slot.

Chapter 6.
Rgen Utility
Rgen Utility is a general purpose tool designed for generating various Switching
System related reports. The utility is tailored to produce condensed report in
presentable manner in contrast to the reports produced by CRP. However the
reports generated by this tool are not as detailed as generated by CRP.
Utility is invoked with a script file. Script file consists of instructions written in
Rgen language to tailor a report for an application. Programming details of Rgen
language are outside the scope of this document.
Rgen when invokes read script file and as per directive it may collect more input
against queries. Thereafter read one or more data files and arrange output as per
format. Output further will be passed through sorting function against user
request.
It is also possible to get some information which is not available in crp: For
example,
If one wishes to see the subscribers meter reading i.e., the sum of local and STD
counters then he has to invoke the `submtr2' script as follows:

It will ask for the following parameter
FDATE : From date
TDATE : To date
BM NUM : Base module number
DIRECTORY NUM: Directory number for which information is required
After entering all the values it will display the local counter, STD counter, STD-CALL counter and bulk counter (sum of local counter and STD counter) values as
the output.
Here if directory number is given default value then for all existing subscribers,
current meter readings and bulk counters will be displayed. Partial values against
directory number parameter is also allowed. For example, if 582 is given and 7 digit
DIRNOs are there then meter readings will be displayed for DIRNOs 5820000 to
5829999.

Parameter Description
On issuing a rgen command, the system will respond by asking for parameters
required for execution of that command. Parameters are variables which identify
and contain a piece of necessary information to execute a command.
Some of the parameters are used in more than one command. In the parameter
description to follow, these parameters are discussed only once.
Parameter description for each parameter is covered under the following subheads.

Utility Invocation
9.1. SYNTAX FOR INVOCATION
The regen utility can be invoked from the UNIX prompt in two different modes :
i) Menu driven mode
ii) Direct utility mode
The syntax for invoking rgen is as follows :
Method 1 : Menu driven

On issuing the above command main menu will be displayed, choose the number
options from main and secondary menus to display/print the desired reports.

Utility MODIFY2 to Create Command files
A menu driven utility modify2 is provided in this Rgen. It will be helpful in
creation of command files required to carry out a specific activity e.g., STD barring,
BNP-ANNC, BNP-DISC, Restoration of STD facility providing DTMF/DECAD, del
sub, meter reading etc.
This utility can be run by any directory from IOP5x> prompt. One has to simply fill
in the Dir. Nos. (Or a range of Dir Nos.) and select from the Menu the activity to
be performed.
Features of utility
1. Meter reading option in command menu enables to get meter reading of
selected Dir. Nos. on a particular date provided the formatting is done on
that date and Rgen tool along with its script file submtr2 are available in
$TOOLP at /u/admn/rgen directories.
2. If DIR NOS. are already stored in a file, then one need not fill in them again,
the utility can operate over the file directly as modify .
3. Save & Exit options allows the user to save the Dir. Nos. so far extered in a
file named safe so that he used not enter them again if required.

Description of command line parameters
rgen Command name (Report generator)
Script file One of the script files made for an application as described under
Chapter 7.
Positive integer number
-f Process data for only first records
-r Process data in reverse order for records
-s Sort on field This option is not applicable with Bill monitoringrelated scripts.
i) The parameter in square brackets are optional
ii) Either -f or -r may be used but not both.
iii) If parameter is missing then all records will be processed for -f or -r
option. For -s option if not specified then sorting will be performed on
first field.
All script files are supplied along with the rgen software. However some script files
have application only in multi-module configuration.
9.1.1. Command line option -f
The command line option -f allows the user to process only a given number of
records from the beginning of the data files. When this option is given only
the given number of records are read from the data file and processed. If
some other conditions are also given against queries for the output
generation, the actual number of records in output may be less than the
number of records given in the -f option. If a range of dates or BMs are given
for generating reports, given number of records will be read from files
corresponding to each date and for all equipped BMs.
9.1.2. Command line option -r
This option is similar to -f option. In this case the given number of records
are read from the end of the data file in the reverse order. This can be used to
get only the last few records in a file.

9.1.3. Command line option -s
This option can be used to sort the report generated by rgen in ascending
order lexically on a given field. For example, if the sorting is to be done on
3rd field of the report, rgen can be invoked as
iop5x > rgen script-file -s3
9.2. QUERIES
When rgen is invoked with a script file, it may prompt the user to enter some data.
User can press return for entering the default values in all cases. Details of queries
may vary with different script files. The user may prompt for the required
information.
Query is prompted in following form
[ Parameter-name ~] :
The square bracket shows that value can be default. To specify default, press return
key of the keyboard. Depending on parameter, default value will be displayed on
screen.
The tild sign (~) if present indicates that partial matching of parameter is possible.
That is, records fields which have some prefix as against parameter entry, will be
matched. However no validation is performed on length of the parameter.
If no tild sign (~) displayed during query then complete input is to be given for
matching.
BM NUM query is validated against range.
Whenever query is displayed bottom of the screen will either have a guiding
message or actual possible values. If the message at bottom only guidance then only
general validation is made, however if actual values are displayed then input is
tested against the possible values.
Following queries are commonly used :-
9.2.1. FDATE
This is the date from which the reports are to be generated. User can select
the current date by pressing return when prompted. Any other date has to beentered in the format dd-mm-yyyy where dd = date, mm = month and yyyy =
year.
9.2.2. TDATE
This is the date until which the reports are to be generated. This is prompted
only if non default value entered for FDATE. The default value for TDATE is

the value entered for FDATE. If any other value is entered, the reports for
the period valid from FDATE to TDATE are generated.
9.2.3. BM NUM
This is the Base Module Number for which reports are to be generated. If
default value is entered, reports are generated for all equipped BMs. If avalue is entered at the prompt for this parameter, reports are generated only
for that BM.
9.2.4. Directory Number
This is the directory number for which reports are to be generated. If default
value is given for this parameter, reports for all directory numbers are
generated. If partial values are allowed against this parameters then a tild
(~) sign will be indicated in query parameter.
e.g. : If 582 is entered for DIR NO, then reports for the numbers 582x... are
generated.
9.2.5. TEN
This is the Terminal Equipment Number (TEN) for which reports have to be
generated. If default value is given for this parameter, reports are generated
for all the TENs. If any value is given, reports are generated only for that
TEN. This parameter has to be entered in the format BB-R-F- SL-CC where
BB = BM number, R = rack number, F=frame number, SL = slot number and
CC = circuit number. Partial value also may be entered if allowed for this
parameter. Then if 1-1-4 is entered, reports for all the circuits of all the slotsin the 4th frame of the first rack of BM-01 are generated.

Site Name Exchange Type Time Stamp
Site Name : This is the name of the site where exchange is installed.
Exchange Type : This can be strings like SBM-RAX, MBM-MAX, SBM-TAX etc.
Time Stamp : Time at which the report is made.
Remaining part of the output is script file dependent.
On Selecting proper option above report can be either displayed or printed.

The consolidated traffic report is equivalent to the OCHEALA report which is
desired by the exchange persons. This report indicates the performance of the
exchange which includes the lines assigned, BHCA of the system, number of trunks
assigned in the exchange. In addition to this the originating performance reports,
incoming performance report, processing efficiency and the calls completion ratio of
the individual BM as well for the exchange is also generated and the major reasons
for call failures with their counters are also included. In order to get the report thefollowing mentioned points should be taken care of
All the traffic reports for line, trunks and service results should be activated.
The periodicity of the traffic report should be of 60 minutes.
The TGP's under observation should be in multiples of 4 in case of incoming and
outgoing TGP's and for BW-TGP it should be in multiples of 2.

BM wise incoming Outgoing Traffic Report for Trunk BMs.
Usage : rgnrpt 1st Menu : 3 2nd Menu : 6
Parameters : FDATE, TDATE, BM NUM, FROM-TIME~, TO-TIME~
By default reports for all BMs can be generated. BM number can be given as 01 to
32 for getting reports for any particular BM. If default value is given for this
parameter, reports for all equipped and in service BMs will be generated. If any BM
was not in service during the time of traffic report period, report for that BM will
not be present. The report contains the number of incoming requests (seizures),
incoming successful calls, incoming terminating call attempts, transit call attempts,
outgoing call attempts, successful outgoing calls and total outgoing and incoming
call attempts for all BMs.
NOTE :
1. For SBM sites only BM1 reports will be available
2. Traffic report (LIN-REP) to be enabled in advance to obtain report.

BM wise originating-terminating traffic report
Usage : rgnrpt 1st Menu : 3 2nd Option : 5
Parameters : FDATE, TDATE, BM NUM, FROM-TIME~, TO-TIME~
Reports for a particular BM may be obtained by specifying the value for the
parameter BM NUM. If default value is given for this parameter, reports for all
equipped and in service BMs will be generated. The report gives the number of
originating call attempts, successful calls, terminating call attempts, successful
terminating calls and total originating and terminating call attempts.
NOTE :
1. For SBM sites only BM1 reports will be available
2. Traffic report (LINE-REP) to be enabled in advance to obtain reports. Theoutput will be displayed as follows:
