God of amazing good news, you call our names, and you touch us where we are. Your
love spans time and space, yet wraps itself around us here and now. Defeat is turned to
victory; death is overcome by life. We watch for your light, O God. Grant us the grace
of seeing, and awaken us to life in all its fullness. Strengthen us to live as resurrection
people. In the name of Christ, the Healer, we pray. Amen. CHORAL RESPONSE “Christ Is Risen” Douglas E. Wagner PROCLAIMING GOD’S WORD CONVERSATION WITH THE CHILDREN ANTHEM “Christ Is Risen, Alleluia” Mark Shepperd SCRIPTURE READINGS Jeremiah 31:1-6

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD
*HYMN NO. 111 “Good Christians All, Rejoice and Sing!” Arr. Hal H. Hopson *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (adapted from A Brief Statement of Faith, PCUSA)
In life and in death we belong to God, and through grace we trust in this one triune God.
Through God’s love, we trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus was crucified,
suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised
this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil,
delivering us from death to life eternal.
We trust in the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies
us by grace through faith, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of
Christ, the Church.
In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks
and to live holy and joyful lives. We rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us
from the love of our triune God. Amen. PRAYER OF THE PEOPLE AND OUR LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we
forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. THE OFFERING
OFFERTORY (see insert) “On Emmaus Journey” Arr. John Ferguson

Dear Friends,
Sue York, Sam McChesney and I are pleased to announce that the Rev. Martha Starnes has been hired as
our Interim Pastor. Martha has many friends here at First Presbyterian, and I know she will be making
more as she assists us with our journey in seeking a new pastor for our church.
Martha will be available Sunday through Wednesday here at the church. She has a small apartment here
in Milledgeville. She will be working from home (Atlanta) on Thursdays, but will be reachable by phone.
The office will be closed on Fridays as in the past. Our Administrative Assistant will continue to monitor
any messages that are left and will direct them to Martha. If you need pastoral counseling, visitation or
bereavement support, please do not hesitate to contact the church or Martha by phone if it is during the
days when the office is closed.
During the week of April 28-May 3, Martha will be attending further Interim Pastor training and will not
be in Milledgeville. Please continue to contact the church office and we will address any issues to the best
of our abilities.
The Interim Pastor search committee is grateful for our church family’s patience as we sought to bring the
best person to our pulpit.
