“Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”
One of the first slogans coined by Government of India after getting independence was
Soldier protected the nation and Farmer fed the nation
The leaders of that period understood the importance a soldier and a farmer had in building the nation
Somewhere in between our political leaders and our government officials forgot this.
Now, we the farmers are in a helpless situation and need to find a solution on our own for our survival.
Agriculture is passing through a period of crisis
• On one side the price of the products produced by the farmer is coming down, on the other side his cost of production is going up
• The price that the farmer gets for the product that he produces in comparison to his input cost is not remunerative.
• Farming is a labor intensive activity. Shortage of labor and high labor cost has increased the production cost of everything that the farmer produce.
• Wild animals are entering the farm and are causing havoc. • Most farmers are selling their land and are asking their
children to look for other professions for livelihood.
What is the reason for this crisis? The reason is simple
In a poor country Farmer is a Rich Man In a rich country Farmer is a Poor Man
We need to understand that with every percentage point growth of the Indian Economy,
We the Farmers of this nation will become poorer and poorer
India’s GDP Annual Growth Rate averaged 6.04 % from 1951 to 2015
India's economy has became the world's fastest growing major economy
from the last quarter of 2014, replacing China
Do we have a solution for this problem? Yes, we have.
What is the solution?
The solution is to change ourselves from
Farmer to Agripreneur
The solution is to change the activity that we do from
Agriculture to Agripreneurship
Who is an Agripreneur? Agripreneur is an entrepreneur, combining his love of farming and
agriculture with business.
What is Agripreneurship?
Agripreneurship is simply entrepreneurship in
the agriculture sector.
How can the farmer become an Agripreneur? How can Agriculture become Agripreneurship? By creating 3 revenue streams that compliment each other
1. Livestock Farming 2. Farm Tourism 3. Increased revenue from Agriculture using Farm
mechanization, Open type Precision Farming, Contract farming and by avoiding middlemen.
Where do we start? Let us start by identifying water source
By making ponds Or
By widening & deepening the small streams in our farm to retain water even is summer season
Ponds are needed for
Irrigation, Fish & Livestock farming and Farm tourism
A Pocline / JCB can do this in a few hours
What next? Rubber – as per Rubber Board recommendation, can be
planted with a spacing of 22 Ft X 10 Ft
Advantage of Rubber is that the space-in-between can be used for • Intercropping of CO-3 or CO-4 Fodder Grass
• Making sheds of 12 Ft X 24 Ft for livestock farming
• Making tents of 12 Ft X 24 Ft for Farm tourism
Inter-cropping Rubber with CO-3 or CO-4 Fodder Grass This helps in Live Stock Farming
Similarly Coconut – as per Coconut Board recommendation, can be planted
with a spacing of 25 Ft X 25 Ft
Advantage of Coconut is that the space-in-between can be used for
• Intercropping of CO-3 or CO-4 Grass
• Making sheds of 12 Ft X 24 Ft for livestock farming
• Making tents of 12 Ft X 24 Ft for Farm tourism
• Intercropping of Fruits and vegetables
Farm mechanization?
And increase productivity Mechanization can reduce labor cost
Farm Mechanisation & Open type Precession Farming with Fertigation
1. All of us know how much wages have increased in the last 10 years. Just
imagine the wages that we will have to pay 10 years from now.
2. Our success in the days to come will depend on our ability to reduce labour
cost and increase productivity / revenue.
3. To maximise productivity / revenue from agriculture Open Type precession
Farming with fertigation is required.
4. We all know that for rubber, instead of applying fertilizer once a year if we
can apply the same quantity of fertilizer in four dozes it will give better
results.
5. Same way for any crop with fertigation, we can apply fertilizer once a week
or once in 3 days
6. Fertigation can reduce labour cost and increase growth & crop
Open type Precession Farming with Fertigation Approximate cost per acre Rs.40,000/-
Open Type Precession Farming can help in achieving high productivity from Agriculture
We all know that middlemen make more money than farmers. How can we stop this?
By supplying directly to Retail Chains By doing Contract Farming for Food Processing Industries
Livestock Farming?
Chicken, duck, goat, cow and fish farming are possibilities which a farmer can explore along with growing CO-3 or CO-4 grass as intercrop.
The meat and fish produced can be supplied to retail chains.
This can be done on a profit sharing basis with the workers. This will help in employee retention.
The excretions from cow, goat and chicken are good manure and can help in reducing the money spend for buying manure.
What are the advantages of livestock farming?
What are the advantages of livestock farming?
Chicken, duck, mutton, beef and fish are in great demand and prices go up very frequently.
Instead of spending money for weed cutting, weeds can become food for our cows and goats.
