HEPHAESTUS is the Greek name for the Roman
god of the forge, Vulcan. Birmingham has the
world’s largest iron statue, that of the Roman god,
Vulcan. We named our Starfleet chapter the
Hephaestus to give us ties to our city and to Star
Trek, which has had its own Vulcan since 1966.
Hephaestus forged armor and weapons for the gods.
We create our own “armor and weapons” here, in
our newsletter, so it is called The Anvil.
The Anvil, Issue 266, is the monthly newsletter of
the USS Hephaestus, NCC-2004, of Starfleet, The
International Star Trek Fan Association. All terms
and phrases from Star Trek are owned by
Paramount Pictures Corporation, a division of
Paramount Communications and all rights are
reserved.

November is the e month when we start to think about what we are thankful for. To start off I am thankful for my loving wife. Brenda has made me a better person because of the love that she has shown me. I am thankful for all the friends I have made through the Hephaestus and Starfleet in general. The Hephaestus is made up of people who have a caring heart and a drive for a better tomorrow which Star Trek has always been about. Happy Thanksgiving! For next month I am looking for people to submit t some unusual thing you have on your Christmas list either this year or in years past. Lists or pictures would be great to print in the Anvil. I will also like reviews of TV shows, Movies or conventions. If you have a news story or a fictional story you would like to share then please send it to me to put in the Anvil. As always see you around the ship, Capt. MarkAdam Miller cohephaestus@bellsouth.net

Wow! It’s November already! Have you seen all the beautiful colors on the trees? Mother Nature has been
very busy. Enjoy it now, because it doesn’t last long. I have just a couple of items of ship’s business. First, as
a friendly reminder, take a few minutes to look through this issue of the Anvil. Check the Away Team and
Activity schedule for important activities and their dates and Starfleet Renewal Reminders notes for you when
your subscription expires. Star Trek News and Area Conventions give news of the Star Trek universe.
The second item is the Fall Feast coming up on Saturday, November 9. It starts at 2:00 pm. Pete provides
the turkey, and snacks and drinks are also provided. One change this year - it will be at the Potts’ this year. So
make plans to attend.
W ell, that’s all this time.

October 12, 2013 Social
The social was held at the Mohney’s home. We had pizza for any one who wanted to donate for it. We also played “The Bang Big Theory Clue” game again. The object of the game is to fine out who damaged what item of Sheldon’s and in what room. This time, with a suggestion of crewmen Donald Arnold, we had someone who was not playing to look at the case file to make sure it was properly set right. It was a hard fought game and your fearless Captain won by the luck of the role.
Attendance: 10 people.
Personnel Updates:
If you have any news or accomplishments you would like to share with the group please email them to me at: cohephaestus@bellsouth.net. Also your personal updates can give your Captain added info to help get you recognition and an award at summit for your accomplishments.
SSttaarrfflleeeett MMaarriinnee CCoorrppss Greetings,
Unit activities:
MGen Yawn and wife Lt Youngblood-Yawn visited the Florida State park Grayton Beach where they tent
camped for several days. MGen Yawn preformed 18 hours in voluntary service for the Brookside Fire Rescue
Service.
The 654th MSG is looking for members. There is a completely different set of Academy schools for those trying to get
the Boothby awards. There is no pressure in joining. There are two categories: Active which means all ranks will be
Marine ranks, and Reserve which mean you stay primary Fleet and only use Marine ranks when doing marine stuff.
Contact Major General Neil Yawn if you are interested or have questions.
Looking to boost your Boothby Awards? The Starfleet Marines Academy may be your answer. Check out what SFMC
Academy has for you.

Captain Kirk to report to the U.S.S. Zumwalt
No it is not Captain James T. Kirk but Captain James A. Kirk who will helm the newest Navy Destroyer.
Captain Kirk is from Bethesda, Maryland and was commissioned at the Navel Academy in 1990. The U.S.S.
Zumwalt is the Navy’s newest and largest Destroyer. It comes with the newest technology which enables it to
mitigate minefields, target submarines, and assault shores with a barrage of low altitude radar-evading missiles,
artillery guns, and one day maybe even a magnetic railgun. Congratulations Captain James Kirk. (treknews.net)
Star Trek Commercials
It seems that Star Trek is a new way to sell products. Star Trek has been seen popping up in Twizzler, Xbox
One and Samsun Smartwatch commercial. Also you can see James Earl Jones (voice of Darth Vader), Malcolm
McDowell (Star Trek: Generations) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury from Avengers) in commercials I think
the nerds are finally making a mark - we are a power to be recon with.
(Did I miss something? You have an interesting news item from Star Trek? Then send me your suggestions and articles at

Tomorrow People
***** (Warning there may be spoilers) *****
I have been watching the CW’s new program the Tomorrow People. It is about a group of people who are the next step in evolution for the human race. They have the power of the three T’s, Telepathy, Telekinesis and Teleportation. There is a hint of a fourth T in that one of the characters has the power to distort Time. This is a remake of a British television program with some similarities and some differences. The main point of the program is the Tomorrow People are fighting against an organization called Ultra that is trying to exterminate the Tomorrow People because Ultra sees them as a threat to normal people. The Tomorrow People have one problem in that they can not kill.
This has been a good set up so far in the program and I am looking forward to seeing how it continues. The only problem I am having with the program is that as I see it the Tomorrow People are losing all the time. For every step they make forward they are sent two steps back. I would like to see, at least once, Ultra getting a bloody nose but right now the Tomorrow People are in defense mode.
