– Most MFX customer use the CFX solver launcher or the command line. Basically, alternative, better launch methods exist!

TGrid Access Modes

–A user may also elect to run TGrid as a stand alone application –TGrid runs outside of the Workbench project.

–Note that due to a QA defect academic users do not have the option to launch TGrid interactively when the CutCell method is selected from

ANSYS ED 10.0 Retirement

• ANSYS ED 10.0 has been retired at release 13.0 –Product was primarily used as a marketing tool.–Very low quantities deployed in 2009 & 2010. –Legacy 10.0 Workbench GUI likely doing more harm than good!–Use largely replaced by Academic Teaching with license borrow.–Remove ANSYS ED website info. as part of the 13.0 content update.–Can address any multi-year agreements that are underway with

The following applies to ANSYS Academic products that contain FLUENT at release 12.1:

• Using FLUENT 12.1 within the Workbench environment:– DesignModeler & ANSYS Meshing are used for preprocessing. – FLUENT is an integrated pre-solve-post application. There aren’t

separate applications for Pre or Post, like CFX has. – FLUENT users can read in the mesh; set-up their BC’s, physical

– FLUENT users can read in the mesh; set-up their BC’s, physical models, solver settings, etc.; iterate; and post-process all without leaving the single FLUENT application.

The aa_* feature contains the majority of licensed features discussed on the features table. Things like DesignModeler, DesignXplorer, Dynamics, Multiphysics, CFX, FLUENT, ICEM CFD are all embedded in this single feature.

Licensing Troubleshooting…

If you are experiencing a licensing issue here’s your checklist:

• Make sure that you have installed the release 13.0 academic product & are not trying to use your new license file with an older installation!

• Do not try & work out what product or features you should have by looking at the license file.

• Identify what product you have by reviewing your License Form. If in

• Once the 13.0 academic product has been identified, then use the academic product features table on the academic public website to check what features should be available.

• Because there have been no changes to the Academic L icense keys since Release 12.0:

• R13.0 & R12.1 license keys function with R12.1 & R 12.0 product installations.• R12.0 & R12.1 license keys do function with R13.0 & R12.1 product

installations.• Valid only if the product license existed at that release of course!

• Release 13.0, 12.1 & 12.0 academic license keys do n ot function with 11.0 product installations.

• Because the appended features needed for 11.0 are absent.

Shared versus separate licenses setting

License Preferences

Shared License Mode

• Applications running within the Workbench GUI are separate windows (since 12.0), rather than tabs within a parent window.

• When a user moves between different application windows, only one application window will remain active at a time. This is referred to as the shared license mode. Most academic customers will use this mode. –Inactive application windows enter a “pause” state, essentially a “view

only” mode.

simultaneously for an MFX solution.
