Light Output is the total rate of transmission of light energy ( luminous ux ). is light output is expressed in units of Lumens. e higher the number, the brighter the light.
Run Time With fresh baeries installed, it is the elapsed time ( in hours ) from start up until the light falls o to 10% of its initial output.
Beam Distance is the number of meters from the ashlight to where the projected beam reaches 0.25 lux; or approximately the amount of light from a full moon on a clear night, out in the open.
Peak Beam Intensity is the maximum luminous intensity along the center of the light beam. e value is expressed in units of Candela (the international standard) and it does not vary with distance.
Water Resistance— IPX4 —is standard has established that water splashed upon the ashlight from any direction will have no eect on the performance of the ashlight. However, it is neither a waterproof nor immersible standard. ey each have their own measures and icons.
Impact Resistance is the degree to which a ashlight will resist damage when dropped, as measured in meters, on to a solid surface. ere could be some cosmetic damage but no loss of function.
Why Standards ? Until 2009 there were no common benchmarks for handheld portable ashlights and spotlights. Each manufacturer explained product performance with their unique set of criteria. e consumer was unable to compare products as “apples to apples”. e ashlight industry recognized this and created, through a voluntary consensus development process, a widely accepted set of standards.
Reading a package or chart: is example is a Eureka SOS 120
75 Lumens on Highand 5 Lumens on Low
Baeries are eective for 13 Hrs. on High and 100 Hrs. on Low
Is very intense with 9145 Candela on Highand 470 Candela on Low
Will safely survive a 1 meter (3.28 .) fall
Is compliant for IPX4 water resistance
Projects a beam190 meters on High and 40 meters on Low
