The organization mainly includes Indians living in Korea and Koreans who areinterested in India or Indian community. This group primarily composed ofengineering professionals, business persons, research fellows, students andhousewives. IIK upholds India’s umbrella of Unity in Diversity and intends tomake Indians feel at home and interact freely in Korea. Regardless of religion,region, culture and language, doors of IIK are open for every Indian. With thehelp of our lively discussion in group, meetings, get together parties, socio-cultural activities and the best helping hands by each of the members in thegroup, IIK wishes to provide every individual an open communication platformto share experiences, social knowledge and simultaneously a feeling oftogetherness.

We are proud to be Indian ever since the significance of being an Indian isknown to every individual. We, in Korea, are for work, education, name andfame of our country as well as our own. Any differentiation, disintegrationtowards the great India must be kept at bay. Keeping in mind to raise ourcountry's name and fame as well as our own, we should help each other andmake our stay more comfortable in Korea.

2015 started with adding new members to core team. New core teammembers demonstrated their leadership skills and dedication towardthe Indian diaspora throughout the year. It was a successful year, withthe vision of serving Indian diaspora & improving relationship with ourKorean friends. Due to team work & dedicated efforts, IIK successfullyexecuted and completed 7 activities in 2015.

IIK’s relation with Korean friends became more stronger bycollaborating with Yeongdong-gun County introduced by Korea-IndiaAssociation (KOINA). IIK members were able to enjoy the naturalbeauty and ancient Korean music through valuable support ofYeongdong-gun County government. It was an another achievementnail in IIK’s portfolio. IIK successfully completed 1 year MoU term withKOINA, by helping Korean organization to recruit Indian talents in andoutside Republic of Korea.

IIK maintained its trademark of being creative / unique in event formatby introducing “Diwali Mela” on the occasion of Diwali celebration. IIKCricket Club demonstrated best Cricket skills by grabbing runner-upposition in ICA T20 Incheon Cup. Year on Year IIK Events & Cricketteam is elevating its level.

Activities were not limited to fun and get-together, but also joininghands to raise descent amount to support Chennai flood devastation.IIK organized fund raising campaign together with other Indianassociations in Korea, collected amount was distributed amongvarious NGOs and Individuals working in field to help flood victims.

IIK’s vision for 2016 is to –1. Develop stronger core team.2. Get closer to each Indian association in Korea.3. Develop healthy relationship with Korean friends.4. Develop healthy relationship with Government institutions.

It gives me immense pleasure to present IIK Magazine 2015 showingglimpse of events and efforts put in 2015.

Indians In Korea (IIK) is a biggest Indian association in Korea by Indiansand for people that have common interest and link to India. IIK’sfoundation has been strong because of vast inspiration & support fromcommunity members.

Jaraseom Winter FestivalFebruary 1, 2015

The best of Korea’s winter festivals are seen once the rivers freeze and the snow covers the mountains. After IIK Diwali 2015 event,IIK organized a IIK Winter Festival 2015- "Jarasom shingshing Winter Festival (자라섬씽씽겨울축제)" for Indian diaspora to enjoythe winter in Korea on February 1, 2015. It is the largest winter festival in metropolitan area, the Jaraseom Singsing Winter Festivalis held around early January to early February every year.

More than 40 guests from different parts of Korea joined this event. Staying safe on the snow is so important – things can gowrong in an instant, so it was vital that anyone who ventures out into the snow and ice is prepared for emergency so IIK hasprovided safety tips for the participants. It was great to see such a huge turnout – an indication that people genuinely areinterested in playing it safe on the frozen river and snow. Participants enjoyed Ice fishing for trout, snow bumper, snow sledding,ice sledding, ATV bike riding etc. fun filled activities with their families. Snow sculptures, ice trees with ice flowers, icicle fall, andigloo café are one of the main attractions installed around the ice square. Journey from Seoul to winter festival venue was enjoyedby the participants with exciting activities like antakshari, singing, games (housie presented by Mr. Dwarka) and ended in anexcellent day.

Holi was played at Hangang park, Ichon, Seoul on a sunny winter morning with over 250 guests.With professional music system and huge bags full of color, it was a blast!

Post Holi dancing, there we 2 games – the Couple Handcuff and the Tug of war. None of the couplescould solve the Couple Handcuff game. Tug of war was surprisingly won by our young girls team(below 15 years). Yes, even tough boys tasted dust. Go girl go!!

IIK Yeongdong-gun County picnic was on a sunny summer Saturday. A total of 43 guests visited Yeongdong County whichis very popular for Korean classical music (Gugak), wine and high-quality fruits (grapes, persimmon, pear, apple andpeach).

Wine Korea is the biggest wine factory in Korea and producer of Chateau Mani. Guests were given a detailed explanationon how wine is manufactured, packed and stored. This was followed by a relaxing wine pedicure & wine tasting. Membersenjoyed potluck lunch at Songho site (famous for its pine tree forest). After lunch, visitors were allowed to pluck juicypeaches directly from trees at the fruit farm.

The final part of the trip was visit to Nangye Korean Traditional Music Experience Center. Guests had a very specialopportunity to play and experience Korean traditional instruments, after the wonderful Korean music concert.

The action filled annual IIK Premier Cup 2015 was played among 10 teams, each having 11players. There were a total of 110+ players. Each innings was composed of 8 overs.

Initially, IIK started playing cricket in Korea as “Lions Indian” which was then renamed as IIKCricket Club. IIKCC is involved in playing and promoting quality and disciplined cricket.

IIKCC currently participates in 2 competitions. One of them is GCL (Gyeonggi CricketLeague) organized by KCA. GCL is a 20 overs competition played at Incheon Asian gamecricket stadium (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeonhui_Cricket_Ground) comprised with12 teams mainly from Seoul, Incheon and Suwon area.

The other league is organized by Incheon Cricket Association (ICA) supported by Incheoncity council. It is played within selected top ranked teams from India, Korea, Pakistan andSri Lanka. We are proud to say that IIKCC became the runner up beating both Korea and SriLanka.

Dandiya is traditional folk dance of Western India, specially performed during Navaratri festival in October. Among theseveral forms of Raas, the most popular one is "Dandiya Raas", which is performed during Navratri. In fact, it holds asignificant place in Navratri celebrations. It is known for setting the festive mood. Traditionally, Dandiya Raas isperformed after aarti (ritual of worshipping the deity).

The IIK in collaboration with Indian Students association in Seoul National University organized Dandiya Night 2015 atSNU on October 18, 2015. Program started with the worshipping the deity ‘Durga Mata’ followed by danceperformances. Indians as well as other international community participants enjoyed this Dandiya night with non-stopDancing, Gujrati folk music with Bollywood tit bits, electrifying energy, captivating beats, bright costumes and of coursethe cling clang of the new age Dandiya sticks! Garba dance competition was thoroughly enjoyed by the performers aswell as the spectators and was one the entertaining and exciting experiences for everyone and finally culminating in tostage-shaking free style bollywood freestyle followed by a delicious Indian buffet.

IIK celebrated the divine Diwali with over 500 Indian and international guests at the Sungkyunkwan University,Suwon.

The event was divided into two parts – indoor performances followed by an outdoor mela. There were over 15stalls serving mouth-watering food like pani-puri, bread bhajiyas, dosa, jalebi, vada pav, dabeli, chicken rolls, hottea, etc. Stalls were set-up by individuals as well as professional restaurants like Chakraa, Nila, etc.

Kids had a blast at the games stalls. Over 2 dozen gifts were up for grabs – microwave, juicer, toasters as well asAir India ticket!
