Andrew Goodwin’s TheoryTamara Akotuah

Andrew Godwin’s theory highlights many ideas on music videos some of which are:

Genre Characteristics linked with video

Most genres will link with the type of video and setting of the video. An example of this would be ‘Boy Better Know’ UK based music group. The genre of their music is grime and most of their music is set in basements, undergrounds, parks, streets

Thought Beats – Seeing the sound

Music pace and rhythm is often connected with what is seen on the screen hence the phrase “seeing the sound” This is evident in Kanye West ft Rhianna- Lights it is faced paced and talks about lights which is seen on screen represented with flashing text.

Relation of visuals with Song

“you know gotta let it go cause the party ain't jumpin' like it used toEven though this might bruise youLet it burnLet it burnGotta let it burn”

Relating visuals with the song is often when looking at the lyrics of an artist. Usher demonstrates this in his music video ‘Burn’

Acknowledgment of Star/ Artist – There must be close ups

The main artist should have close ups on them to promote and advertise them.

Intertextual References

Linking music videos with films, videos, books etc...

Katy B and Snoop Dogg have intertextuality in there song California girls which has been taken from Charlie and the chocolate factory.
