This series of photographs reflect my interest in ‘urban psychograms’, heterotopias and in the themes of dislocation, nomadism, no-places and the construction of identity withing a state which can be characterized like “in between.”

The series of photographs I made in Teufelsberg, the former US-listening station on the top of the artificial hill, heaped up from parts of the rubble of Berlin from WWII. It is a part of my ongoing visual research project “geography of memory”.

Born in Zagreb, lives and works in Berlin and Zagreb. She develops a conceptual practice that includes photography, video, text and multime-dia-installations.

Ana Bilankov studied Art History and German Language and Literature at the Universities of Zagreb and Mainz; Art Photography at Wiesbaden School of Fine Arts and postgraduate studies program, “Fine Art in Context “ at the University of the Arts Berlin (M.A.) and University of the WestofEngland,Bristol,UK.

She got several grants and was artist in residence at Watershed Media Centre Bristol (2002), at Moscow House of Photography (2004), at Atlantic Centre for the Arts, Florida, USA (2006), at Kulturkontakt Austria, Wien (2008), at Residency Unlimited, NY (2013) and again in 2014 with the grant from Berlin Senate, Cultural Affairs Departement. She was also invited for a post-production residency at The Wexner Center’s Film/Video Studio program, Columbus, Ohio, USA (2014).

Bilankov’s works have been shown internationally in art venues as well as film & video festivals. Venues include Dazibao, Centre de Photogra-phies Actuelles, Montreal (2014); Kino Siska (Ljubljana, 2014); Collegium Hungaricum Berlin and Media Art Fair Essen (2013); Residency Unlimited (New York, 2013); 29. Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival (2012); Museum of Contemporary Art (Zagreb, 2012); Kino Arsenal (Berlin, 2011); 25. FPS International Festival of Experimental Film (Zagreb, 2010); Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Rijeka, 2009); Galerie Artneuland Berlin (2009); Galerie Weisser Elefant (Berlin, 2007); 1st Moscow Biennale, Museum of Contemporary Art Moscow (2005).
