The local FFA chapter has raised money, and other
chapters have donated, as well as individuals in the
community, to the Clay Mitchell FFA
Scholarship. If you would like to donate to the
fund too, see Mr. Abner, or call the office. Mr. Abner
says that if you donate as much as $100, the chapter
will make you a horseshoe cross.

FFA Auction Raises $9,000, Creates Scholarship for Clay
On Saturday, May 10, 2014, the FFA had their annual fish fry and auction. The top selling items were the chicken coop built by
Landon Dorner selling for $420 followed closely by the picnic table with an ice tray for $400. The top buyers were the Cunningham
family and Jimmy Fite and Marty Fite.
Approximately $9,000 was raised and some money is still coming in. Extra orders were placed for some auction items. Mr. Abner
wanted to extend a special thank you to A & S Air Conditioning for donating items in construction of picnic tables, Wade Bartley,
auctioneer, Sherrie Thompson, Ginger Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. John Vance, Kara Duncan, Landon Dorner, Ross Scott, Rodney
Josey, Richard Fielden, and numerous others.
The FFA officers, Meagan Coberley, Shelby Williams, Landon Dorner, Erin Zeringue, Darron Foster, and Cody Vance, wanted to
do something special for Clay Mitchell, a former FFA officer who graduated in 2012-2013 and passed away last week. They decid-
ed to create a memorial for him. They auctioned off a cross made of horseshoes, but then when money was coming in so fast, Wade
Bartley, auctioneer, suggested that perhaps a scholarship in his name would be appropriate, and that is what they decided to do. Thus
far, they have raised over $1500 and continue to accept donations for the Clay Mitchell FFA Scholarship fund. Mr. Abner said, For
each $100 donation, we will give the donor a horseshoe cross in honor of Clay. Mr. Abner said that Wednesday afternoon, the State
FFA President, Ryan Cox, from the Mount Pleasant FFA chapter, presented the Sulphur Bluff FFA chapter $735 more for the fund.
Mr. Abner and the FFA members said, Along with all the buyers and donors, we would like to thank the entire community for their
support.
