Plaster CastWhitney Hamaker, Fall 2012

Working from a previous project, we took a small moment and drew an elevation. From this, I began sketching out 3D forms and extrapolating various parts. I then built a model of the negative space and poured the plaster, let it dry, and sanded the surface.

After completing the plaster cube, we were to create an armature, that is, an extension of the plas-ter cube that would hold and showcase the paster while still being it’s own new form. The focus of the design was around threshold and subtraction.

Unit WallRyan Ball, Spring 2013

The goal of this project was to create a screen wall that con-sists of 50% void, 50% solid and reach a size of 8’x8’ when in three different formations. Starting on an individual basis, various materials and geometrics shapes and forms were explored before settling on a final proposal. As a group, we picked one design to explore possible design changes and material choices. Our 28 final units were constructed out of particle board, into which we poured six inch concrete tips.

The goal was to create a sequence of 16 images that would carry a theme throughout tell a narrative.

Working in groups, we measured a building on cam-pus and drew a floorplan, ceiling plan, and eleva-tions/sections. From there, we drew an abstracted axon and developed an abstracted 3D model to represent the promenade through the space.

This assignment was focusing on color and how col-ors work with other colors. Using two collor palettes (one monochromatic and one polychromatic), we were to recreate a photograph taken in Over-the-Rhine.

After completing the 16 Image Sequence, we were asked to represent some of the connections in a dif-ferent way, using any drawing type and medium.

After a trip to the Cincinnati Art Museum, we were to choose one art piece from the trip and represent the piece in five different ways, using various technique, both digitally and by hand.

Using planes, the goal was to create a form that de-fines a 12” cube, creates space, and could balance on a four square inch base.
