WHAT IS ALCOHOL ADDICTION?
Alcohol addict ion is a term used to descr ibe a phys ica l , psychologica l and
or emot ional dependency on a part icular substance, act , r i tual or behavior .
A lcohol Addict ion presents i tse l f in many di f ferent forms, the most common
of which is the dependency on a lcohol . A lcohol Addict ion roots are located
predominant ly in stress and anxiety d isorders , and addict ive behaviors
serve as a temporary re l ief to these symptom
Alcohol Addict ion can develop quick ly or over a long per iod of t ime. The
person loses control and the abi l i ty to stop when they had planned to. The
substance or behavior begins to control and manipulate the person ’s l i fe .
People are often referred to as being an ‘addict ’ and hav ing an ‘addict ion ’
once th is pattern of behavior has taken root . In i ts most chronic state , the
addicts ’ main purpose, funct ion and desire is to ‘ feed ’ the addict ion. This
cul t ivates an endless cyc le of unheal thy behavior which tr iggers an
overwhelming sense to ‘use more, more frequent ly ’ in order to feel
sat is f ied. This ‘us ing ’ behavior becomes the only means of p leasure or
‘escape ’ for the addict . Eventual ly addict ion causes an often-devastat ing
impact on a l l areas of l i fe , resul t ing in chronic heal th condit ions , poor socia l
engagement , iso lat ion, work problems, fami ly and re lat ionship breakdown,
a chaot ic l i festy le , debt or f inancia l problems.

WHAT IS ALCOHOL & DRUG
DETOXIFICATION (DETOX)
Drug or a lcohol detoxi f icat ion, or ́detox ́ , i s the f i rst step taken before
enter ing treatment at THE BALANCE, detox is for c l ients present ing with
drug and a lcohol dependency. Detox is a medical procedure and an
assessment process , which requires an inpat ient admiss ion to a pr ivate
hospi ta l .
The in i t ia l procedure takes p lace in order to stabi l ize the pat ient , a f ter
which they are then able to move on to comprehensive treatment . Having
a detox prevents some of the most intense and unpleasant symptom which
can often be a resul t f rom withdrawal . Detoxing and can help you to become
abst inent f rom drugs and a lcohol .
Af ter stabi l izat ion the focus of detox shi f ts to monitor ing and support ing
var ious processes with in the body; as i t r ids i tse l f of the drug.
I t ’ s important to note that a detox is not considered a whole treatment for
a lcohol or drug addict ion. Detox a lone might help a person to stop abusing
drugs and a lcohol in the short term, but wi thout fo l low-up care , medical
nutr i t ional and therapeut ic work , the r isk of re lapse into problemat ic use
again is h ighly l ike ly .
C l ients benef i t at THE BALANCE from a combinat ion of psychotherapeut ic ,
nutr i t ional and medical t reatment as part of the ongoing treatment post
detoxi f icat ion. This is known as ́hol ist ic ́ t reatment and recognizes that a l l
areas of a person ’s l i fe need attent ion in order to regain heal th and
wel lbeing.

DETOX PROCEDURES
Pat ients who opt for a medical detox stop tak ing a l l substances and a lcohol .
As they exper ience withdrawal symptoms, a short- term medicat ion plan for
th is detox stage might require them take certa in medicat ions for a l imited
per iod of t ime to ease discomfort .
For example , one common impact f rom drug and a lcohol wi thdrawal is
d isturbed s leep, so you may be prescr ibed s leep medicat ion, for a short
per iod of t ime, to help the phys io logica l system return to some level of
balance. I t is important a lso to note that long terms heal thy re laxed s leep
can take months to return based on other psychologica l and phys ica l
issues.
Another example is i f someone exper iences bone aches or muscle pains as
a resul t of wi thdrawal . In such cases , you may be of fered temporary pain
re l ief . Control led medicat ions are avai lable 24/7 to ensure pat ience have
what is needed to get through the discomfort of detox as quick ly as
poss ib le . Pat ience detoxing from alcohol are commonly g iven
benzodiazepines on a regular schedule or as symptoms ar ise. These drugs
can treat or prevent se izures and del i r ium and aren ’ t dangerous to take.
However , these medicat ions are not to be taken long-term; due to their
cross-to lerance with a lcohol , they can ass ist you in safe ly detoxing from
alcohol .
To treat use of opio id drugs such as heroin and prescr ipt ion paink i l lers ,
pat ients may be g iven the opt ion to take longer-term medicat ions. For
example , us ing methadone or the drug combinat ion buprenorphine
(Subutex) and naloxone (Suboxone) to stop the more unpleasant wi thdrawal
symptoms. Over t ime, and under medica l superv is ion, the dosage is lowered
unt i l the pat ient are drug- f ree.
Detoxi f icat ion from both drug and a lcohol dependencies are indiv idual and
based on the pat ients present ing heal th condit ion, sever i ty and re lat ive
t ime per iod of dependency. The amount of t ime that a pat ient spends in
hospi ta l for a detox wi l l a lso vary based on a c l ient ’s heal th , age, sex and
other indiv idual var iables . Typica l ly , a detox takes between 2 to 5 days
before a pat ient can be safe ly d ischarged but may take longer in more
extreme cases. The main factor is the i t takes p lace in a hospita l and under
the superv is ion of a medical team, in order to ensure you safety and
comfort .

MEDICAL TREATMENT
AT THE BALANCE
At THE BALANCE we of fer c l ients a hol ist ic approach to phys ica l and mental
heal th care. The term ́hol ist ic ́ means that our program incorporates a l l
aspects of a person l i fe and recognizes that each part of us is int imately
interconnected to a ́whole ́ so in terms of heal th care , i t recognizes that a l l
areas of a person ’s l i fe need attent ion, in order to impact on the indiv idual .
This incorporates our model of Mind, Body and L i fe .
Hol ist ic medic ine (a lso known as phys io logica l regulat ing medic ine and
Bio logica l Medic ine) treats the whole person. The pat ient ’s symptoms are
a lways considered to be the outward express ion of an under ly ing
dysfunct ion that can be remedied by st imulat ing the body ’s own regulatory
forces. We search for the root causes of the pat ient ’s d isease in order to
g ive the body a chance to heal i tse l f . This is why we g ive top pr ior i ty to
improving the pat ient ’s general metabol ism, together wi th detoxi f icat ion,
pur i f icat ion and the latest methods of immune - st imulat ion, as wel l as
other st imulat ing therapies .
THE BALANCE bio logica l medic ine a ims at strengthening the whole , so that
d iseases and suscept ib i l i ty to d isease can be overcome by the pat ient ’s own
immune system and heal ing process. For th is reason, our doctors ut i l i ze
'suppress ive ' medic ines only dur ing t imes of emergency , and not for
chronic care management , because th is type of medic ine is most ef fect ive
in acute s i tuat ions. We are a lso s lower to recommend certa in operat ions ,
preferr ing f i rst to apply our hol ist ic therapy concept .
As our pat ient , you are making a commitment to your heal th . With your
cooperat ion and the THE BALANCE staf f ’ s input of exper ience and know
how, suscept ib i l i t ies can be detected, and the course of the disease
reversed. I t i s important to note that our doctors have convent ional medical
degrees and specia l ized tra in ing in Bio logica l Medic ine, and in certa in
cases , convent ional and hol ist ic treatments wi l l be integrated.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL WEAKNESS
AND THE ADRENAL GLAND
Adrenal fat igue is a col lect ion of s igns and symptoms, known as a syndrome,
that resul ts when the adrenal g lands funct ion below the necessary level .
Most commonly associated with intense or prolonged stress , i t can a lso
ar ise dur ing or af ter acute or chronic infect ions , especia l ly respiratory
infect ions such as inf luenza, bronchit is or pneumonia. . . you l ive wi th a
general sense of un-wel lness , t i redness or “grey” feel ings . People
exper iencing adrenal fat igue often have to use cof fee, colas and other
st imulants to get going in the morning and to prop themselves up dur ing
the day.
“The adrenal g lands respond to a l l types of stress in the same way. . . I t i s
important to know that a l l s tresses are addit ive and cumulat ive . The
number of stresses , whether or not you recognize them as stresses , the
intensi ty of each stress , and the frequency with which i t occurs p lus the
length of t ime i t is present , a l l combine to form your tota l stress load. ”
together wi th th is i t i s necessary to be aware of connect ions in the body
system:
The digest ive and g landular systems are c losely re lated to the autonomic
nervous system, which is a lso ca l led the “abdominal bra in” . I t consists of
two parts , the sympathet ic and the parasympathet ic , which control a l l our
involuntary body funct ions and must be rhythmical ly balanced with one
another for our metabol ism and immune systems to funct ion proper ly . At
RECORE we are able to measure th is balance in a unique way v ia tools that
assess what is known as Heart Rate Var iabi l i ty (HRV) .
By e l iminat ing a l l inf luencing factors (e .g . dental foc i , food a l lerg ies ,
mineral , v i tamin and trace e lement def ic iencies , e lectromagnet ic stress ,
d isorders of the autonomic nervous system, etc . more than 80% of a l l
pat ients we treat for these basic d isorders fu l ly recover . V i r tual ly a l l of our
metabol ic pat ients s igni f icant ly improve thanks to our medic ines , wi thout
hav ing to take the drugs commonly prescr ibed that involve adverse s ide
ef fects . With d iabetes pat ients , the insul in dose they need can frequent ly
be reduced. But especia l ly the qual i ty of l i fe and overal l wel lbeing improve
immensely .
