Attaching AKVA Basic
The AKVA Basic System can be mounted on any type of feed platform but we recommend
securing it to the surface with ½ inch bolts approximately 700mm from the wall or any
nearby objects.

4. Feed rate
The Feed Delivery Rate is an index that shows the amount of feed supplied to the fish over
a measured unit of time. This can be measured in kilograms per minute (kg / min) or in:
- Kilograms per tonne per minute (kg / ton / min): this index is directly proportionate
to the biomass in each cage. It indicates the quantity of feed to be delivered to the
fish biomass in 1 minute.
- Pellet per fish per minute (p / p / m): This index depends directly on the number of
pellets in 1 kilogram of feed being delivered to the cage in question. It is essential
to know this in order to set the feed rate correctly. This index indicates the number
of pellets to be delivered to each fish in 1 minute.
CALIBRATION CONCEPT
- It is essential to find out the calibration setting of our feeding system. This setting
must be expressed in kilograms per second (kg / s). To determine this setting, load
the feeder with 25 kg of feed and set the calibration at ON: 1 OFF: 1 and measure
the time it takes to deliver the whole feed.
The delivery ratio table shows that the ON-OFF setting is 50%

Suppose the delivery of the 25 kg. of feed took 23 second to empty the hopper of the
equipment, then we have:
Feed: 25 kg.
Time: 23 second.
Delivery Ratio: 50%.
Calibration Value =____________25 kg___________________
(23 seg x 50%)
Calibration Value = ____________ Kg Delivered
(Time x Delivery Ratio)
Calibration Value = 2, 2 kg/s

Feed Delivery Rates.
The timer setting of the equipment manages directly the number of pulses of feed that
will be delivery in one minute. For the example case (ON = 1; OFF = 1) we can observe in
the table that will be 30 pulses of delivered that the equipment runs.
If we want to know the Feeding Rate that we are using, we need to multiply the
“calibration value” previously obtained according with the ON-OFF setting. For example
we know that the calibration value is 2.2 kg/s and 30 pulses per minute, therefore, we
have a Feeding Rate of 66 kg/min.

FEED RATE EQUIVALENTS.
If we know the feed rate expressed in kg / min, and we want to know what it is in kg /
tones / min, we need to ascertain the total biomass in the cage. Supposing we have
35,000 fish with an average weight of 4.2kg each, we must:
Then:
Biomass = __35.000 x 4,2 kg__ = 147 ton
1.000
We know the feed rate in kg / min (66 kg / min), therefore, to calculate the equivalent in
kg / ton / min; we have to consider the following:
We have:
Delivery Rate = _66 kg/min_ = 0,44 kg/tn/min
147 tn
To ascertain the equivalent in pellets per fish per minute, we must find out how many
pellets there are in 1 kg of feed of the diameter/size budgeted to feed the fish. Suppose
the number of pellets per kilogram is 750 pellets / kg:
Delivery Rate = _66 kg/min x 750 pellets/kg_ = 1,41 pellets/fish/min
35.000 fish
Biomass (Tones) = __Number of Fish x Average Weight (kg)___
1000
Feed Rate (Kg/Tn/min) = __Rate (kg/min)__
Biomass (tn)

7. Selection fo Feeding Lines
Setting Cage to be feed.
Before the operation we should select the section/cage to be feed.
Each Feeding Line can supply a maximum of 4 cages, which is why the selector valves are
located every 4 cages on the system, usually in the Main Frame.
