Professional Development Hours (PDHs)
The Texas Board of Professional Engineers (TBPE) requires engineers to obtain at least 15 professional development hours (PDHs) within the year as a condition for license renewal. The Board defines a PDH as, “a contact hour (clock hour) of Continuing Education Program (CEP) activity.”
Engineers can earn PDHs by, “presenting or attending seminars, in-house courses, workshops, or professional or tech-nical presentations made at meetings, conventions, or conferences sponsored by a corporation, other business entity, professional or technical societies, associations, agencies, or organizations, or other group.” For more comprehensive information on earning PDHs, visit the TBPE website and reference Board rule §137.17, Continuing Education Program.
For claimed activities, the TBPE requires the license holder to maintain some hard-copy documentation of the type of activ-ity, sponsoring organization, location, duration, speaker name, and PDH credits earned. We recommended retaining this agenda as supporting documentation.
