AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES 2014 - 2015 School Year
We are pleased to offer a variety of after school enrichment activities for students in grades K-8. On the
following pages, you’ll find detailed descriptions and schedules for activities as well as enrollment information
for the programs.
We now offer several enrollment options: you can choose to bundle the traditional program with some
activities through the After School Enrichment Plus+ and After School 3x Weekly options, or choose to enroll in
just Enrichment Activities each semester. We hope you’ll find the flexibility of these options convenient.
Please note the following:
All Enrichment Activities begin the week of Monday, September 8. Students enrolled in After School
Enrichment Plus+ and After School 3x Weekly, however, will have the program available to them
beginning Thursday, September 4, the first day of school.
Students enrolled in After School Enrichment Plus+ and After School 3x Weekly must be picked up no
later than 6 p.m.
Students enrolled in just Enrichment Activities must be picked up after their scheduled activity is done.
Students who remain in the building will be brought to the After School and the daily fee of $40 will be
billed.
The only day there is NO scheduled after school and NO scheduled enrichment activities is the last day
of school, which is Friday, June 12. On that day, school dismisses at noon and the building closes early.
Modified programming will be available on days of Parent-Teacher Conferences; however, the
program will be available beginning when school dismisses at 12 p.m. and will run until 6 p.m.
On days when inclement weather is forecasted for the afternoon or evening, the school may choose to
cancel after school activities or end the program early so that students and faculty can safely travel
home. During these rare events, a decision will be made and communicated as early as possible.
The following pages contain detailed descriptions and schedules for activities as well as costs for the programs.
The last 2 pages contain enrollment forms that must be completed in order to register for any program or
activity. Advanced registration is required so we can determine group sizes and staffing needs. Please note
that FACTS Tuition Billing is available for families who choose to pay for the program online via credit card or
electronic checking. If you have any questions regarding enrollment, please contact the Business Office at
718-833-8650.

SEMESTER 1 ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES DESCRIPTIONS | SEPTEMBER 8, 2014 – JANUARY 30, 2015
ARCHITOTS Gr. K-2: Tuesdays, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Gr. 3-6: Tuesdays, 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Architots has been delivering its unique brand of educational and enrichment programs to NYC students since
2001. We use architecture as a lens to look at the world and better understand our relationships to our built
surroundings. Math, science, history, art, and culture are explored to illustrate the differences and similarities our
environment has to other parts of the world and how ancient problems turn into modern solutions. Students
gain an understanding of the tools and processes that architects have at their disposal to create design
solutions. More importantly, students get the chance to apply this understanding through multimedia
presentations and activities, demonstrations, and small group drawing/building/modeling projects.
BASKETBALL CLINIC Gr. 2-4: Thursdays, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Gr. 5-6: Fridays, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
The co-ed basketball clinic offers beginners the opportunity to learn the basics of basketball while giving
seasoned players the chance to improve their skills. Clinic lessons are designed in consultation with Bay Ridge
Prep Athletic Director Tony Campbell, an NBA Champion, who also coaches our varsity boys basketball team.
CHESS Gr. 1-8: Thursdays, 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Chess participants will flex their brain muscles to master the art of maneuvering kings, queens, knights and
rooks, all while participating in a social and mentally-stimulating activity after school. Students may also have
the opportunity to compete in regional and national tournaments.
DANCE Gr. K-3: Mondays, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Gr. 4-8: Thursdays, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Dance develops creative movement skills, musicality, rhythm, coordination, and expression while exploring a
variety of dance forms. Classes culminate with a showcase shared with the school community.
KARATE Gr. 2-4: Wednesdays, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Gr. 5-8: Mondays & Wednesdays, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Tae Kwon Do offers students the chance to participate in additional physical activity, safely learn basic self-
defense, and stimulate their minds with instruction in spirit, focus and power. Opportunities are also available to
enter national Tae Kwon Do tournaments and earn a black belt through the World Martial Arts Association.
TENNIS Gr. K-8: Fridays, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Beginners are invited to learn the basics of tennis with certified tennis instructor Steve Carberry. Instruction
includes proper form and footwork for racket strokes, serving technique, as well as drills, cooperative, and
competitive play. Bay Ridge Prep organizes this program; however payment is to be made directly to
Carberry. **Please note parents are responsible for transporting students to and from the tennis location (in Bay
Ridge/Dyker Heights). The school can help arrange car pools.
THEATER Gr. 2-5: Tuesdays, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Gr. 6-8: Tuesdays, 4 p.m. – 5p.m.
We are excited to offer our after school theatre class offerings in collaboration with teaching artist graduates
from the Educational Theatre program at New York University. Each class series will focus on an area of theatre
performance specifically tailored to that age group and class size. Whether working with Shakespeare,
puppets, masks, process drama, improvisation or stage combat, these classes are fun and experiential
opportunities to explore creative expression.
VISUAL ARTS Gr. K-3: Wednesdays, 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Gr. 4-8: Mondays, 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Visual Arts takes inspiration from contemporary artists, their themes, and use of materials and techniques;
including drawing, painting, 3D construction, printmaking, and collage. Children in the younger group explore
these artists through simple and fun lessons that creatively build fine motor skills and problem-solving abilities. In
the older group, students expand their artistic skills by discussing a range of artists and dissecting their art work.
Children will then use similar techniques to develop their own projects.
