Welcome and Introductions

• Welcome to AfPIF-2016, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

• 7th AfPIF event

AfPIF Meeting Format

• 4 Days of meetings

– Day 0 – Af-IX (invite only meeting)

– Day 1 – AfPIF Peering Coordinators Day (Open)

– Day 2 & 3 – AfPIF Conference Day (Open)

Day 0: Af-IX Day is…

• African IXP operators day

• Invite only event for IXP operators from African region (with a few exceptions)

• Aimed at addressing IXP specific issues

• Designed as a platform where in-depth technical discussions can take place

• Promote the growth of IXPs in the region.

Day 1: Peering Coordinators Day is…

• Conducted in tutorial style format and open to anyone interested in peering & interconnection

• Provide a technical background on peering and interconnection for newcomers

• Designed as a platform where in-depth technical discussions can take place

• Promote the role of peering coordinators in the region.

Day 2 & 3: AfPIF Conference Day is…

• Conducted in plenary format and open to all

• Sessions are divided into – Keynote sessions with Q &A

– Panel Sessions

– Bilateral peering sessions

– Lightning talks

• Less technical and involves more discussions on various issues affecting peering and interconnection

2. The Meeting Tool

• Know who is at the meeting

• Schedule meeting with other participants

3. Make use of the breaks

• There are 6 x 0.5hr coffee/tea breaks and 3 x 1.5hr lunch breaks during the next 3 days

• Get to know our sponsors, speakers, panellists, etc. It is always a good place to break the ice.

• Use the meeting tool after to seek a meeting

4. Make use of the Social events

• We have at least 2 social activities planned during AfPIF

• Socials offer a good opportunity to get to know who is at AfPIF

• Peering discussions can be extended to the social events.

• There is transportation provided from the select hotels Serena, Tsogo Sun

• Transportation will depart the select hotels to Hyatt starting from 07:30, 07:45, 08:00, 08:15, 08:30, 08:45, 09:00, 09:15

• Transport for the social

• We have a Live streaming for the event
