Our Insight:Technologies sacrifice the personal freedoms of those living with

dementia, leaving them with little control over their own lives.

Our AimPromote critical discussion around returning the

control back to those who are living with dementia and explore what it means to be tracked or “tagged”.

Our Solution

What is affinity and what does it do?

Affinity is a service that quantifies the care given to those living with dementia and encourages communication between the care

givers and care receivers.

Ambient DisplayA key point from the presentations highlighted the need to reduce “overhead learning” that inherently comes with the introduction of any new technology.

Affinity uses a clock-styled ambient display to show how far away the person’s carers are. The person with dementia is able to communicate with a carer and observe their location by tapping the carer’s face.

Carers receive these prompts as notifications on their phones which, when expanded, provide them with options to communicate or navigate to the person they’re caring for.

The Carer’s App

Quantifying Care

The carers’ location data is used to keep track of how much time they have spent visiting the person living with dementia, checking to see if they have met their definable weekly target.

Carers are able to see how much time they have contributed in comparison to the others in the group.
