Library History1915: The Library of the Agricultural Experiment Station was first organized by the distinguished plant pathologist, Dr. John Stevenson.

1919: the first librarian was appointed by the director of the Station, Mr. Edmundo Colón.

1954: the Library was moved to the second floor of the Biology Building where it remained until February 1969 when it was transferred to its present location.

Library History

2003: the College of Agriculture of the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus (UPRM) and Library Director of the General Library at UPRM sign a memorandum of agreement in which the General Library would provide a Librarian to implement library modernization and automation.

Library history

2008: The Library has created a database entitled Digital Repository of the Agricultural Experiment Station (AES). It's a place in which you have access to books, periodicals and special collections of AES Library of the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus.

Vision and mission

Vision:

Be at the forefront in technological advances in order to provide the user with the most innovative information in agricultural resources in Puerto Rico.

Mission:

Encourage research by means of the availability of resources supporting research projects. Also part of their endeavor is to provide access to the scientific and university community through a virtual library. Another priority is to offer a service of excellence to the users, by satisfying the requests and demand of information from the scientific and University community.

Goals To promote excellence and quality in the service that the Library offers.

To expand dissemination and promotion of research, resources and service activities of the Library.

To maintain a collection that supports the research programs of the AES and of other University units.

To maintain a training and development program for the personnel.

To update the educational technology and the information systems necessary to support the users needs.

To develop a solid planning process. To implement a permanent evaluation system that would support a decision process.

Library services:

The Library mainly serves the scientific community of the Institution. It also provides information to professors and university students, personnel of the Service of Agricultural Extension, investigators of governmental and private agencies, students of primary and secondary schools, and to all persons interested in the agricultural affairs.

Library services:

1. Specialize instruction for research in the agricultural filed and other areas.

2. Photocopy of documents.

3. Loan of library resources (books, documents and others).

4. Library instruction in database and electronic resources uses and services.

5. Interlibrary Loan.

7. Color or black and white print out of documents.

8. Programming the use of meeting facilities: Annex Room, Conference Room y Teledis Room for professional activities.

9. Library instruction to professors and students of library services.

10. The creation of bibliographic reference list of special topics for users or investigators.
